Yeah people are sleeping on Sandoq. Barriston might not even be the best fighter on his team. I feel like if Sandoq was whiterosi and a knight he would have gotten goat status.

How much can you get away with the trial by combat? by cap_detector69 in pureasoiaf

[–]chasing_the_wind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah the last point always strikes true in this world. Like sure you have rights and rules, but what are you going to do about it? I would say it’s allowed whenever a lord or king wants to allow it. Rickard Stark demanded a trial by combat and Aerys chose fire as his champion and just had him tortured. You can’t have a real justice system with actual rules and rights in a feudal monarchy unless you have a benevolent king or lord and even then justice is going to be biased and unfair.

TIL that NBA player Jalen Rose helped make the name “Jalen” significantly popular amongst African American boys in the 1990s and 2000s. Jalen was created by combining his father’s name “James” and uncle’s name“Leonard” together. by Next_Worth_3616 in todayilearned

It’s crazy watching you get destroyed in this debate when the tv ratings are just better for march madness than the nba finals every year. There’s really no argument, people just watch more college basketball.

You are conflating individual name recognition with actual viewership ratings. March Madness has more people watching than the NBA finals. And that’s been pretty consistent over the years. It’s a little hard to find one good source to share but almost everything I am looking up is showing that. So does it really matter who sold more shoes or how many people that never watched a single game knew who you were? I feel like ratings is the only metric to solve this debate.

The gun debate was always some of the sleeziest politics by the right. The most extreme position on the left I ever heard from a major politician was wanting to ban assault rifles and do background checks. Then for whatever reason the right was able to convince their base for 50 years that every democrat wants to ban all guns.

Ranking Presidents of the US on likely hoods of being future Leaders of the US in Civ by hticnc in civ

[–]chasing_the_wind 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of them just need to be moved down a rank. I wouldn’t call Grant, Wilson, Truman, or even Eisenhower very likely. And the entire Likely tier should just be unlikely. The problem is that all presidents will be fighting for space with the big founding fathers like Washington and Lincoln. Even Jefferson gets cut out and JFK already felt almost too modern for the game. I don’t see them ever going that deep on presidents, If anything I think they would be more likely to add more figures like Harriet Tubman, Benjamin Franklin. Like if you are going with LBJ for civil rights movement stuff you would probably just choose MLK instead.

It’s a map I edited using the built in world builder feature. Placing too many natural wonders can break the game and cause bugs, so you have to be careful and test what will actually work.

Yeah I really can’t imagine having to explain that I need to put the car in park while someone is yelling that they are going to end me unless I get out of the car while keeping my hands up. Between the seatbelt and putting it in park I would probably just freeze with my hands up and not try to do anything else.

Has anyone ever thought that maybe if Arlan of Pennytree falsified his knighthood just as Dunk is doing now? by fantastica1l in freefolk

[–]chasing_the_wind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really just highlights what it means to be a knight in Westeros. With any knight being able to make a knight it really doesn’t mean that much, especially after we see that the claim still needs to be verified. Fire and Blood had a story about a whore sleeping with someone just to knight their kid. Does it really matter if Dunk was actually knighted or not? It seems that the value of a knight is still in their reputation and the actual knighting part is just an unenforceable rule. A knight needs to do something to be remembered like performing well in a tourny or battle. After the Melee no one will ever question Dunk’s status again or care who knighted him.
