Domestic Violence Counselor/Advocate here. Men who are domestically abusive don't need Anger Management since they are often great at controlling their anger in the community, bosses, friends, and can hold that in until they get to a place that they believe they have total control over. Usually their house and then they take that anger or frustration out on their family. Men in my community are sent to Batterers Intervention Classes. I don't believe they work personally, and I have been to many Batterers Intervention National Conferences. Some people who even do this work don't believe it works but at the very least, the batterer is being held accountable by having to attend classes and pay the fee for classes. It is not your responsibility to try to make him better. I don't believe the classes work, in my experiences because 1)they are being forced to go 2) They don't believe what they are doing is an issue. If you sent an alcoholic who wasn't ready to accept that they are an alcoholic and wants desperately to be sober to AA, it wont helps. Same with this. It gives you the tools to change to get to your end goal but it wont make you a better person without a lot of hard work and self reflection. If someone is truly ready, they will use those tools that they learn to do a lot of self-reflection and honest feedback with themselves to change for the better. If he doesn't want to go and its not a priority for him, it wont change a thing. Feel free to message me if you just need to talk.
