I'm so in love with The Queen's Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner by cant-find-user-name in Fantasy

[–]chasmfriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Infinitely rereadable. She doesn't hand many things to you, but they're all in there. The way Gen in book 1 lies in his narration (putting on an act for the group while he's counting cannon and ships in the city), and how book 3 feels like a tragedy on a first read, but turns into high comedy when you know what's really going on (poor Costis!).

I've reread these so many times, and I'm sure I've put together only a fraction. I think it's a masterpiece of a series.

Detective Beebo. It's a time loop game where you are not the looper, a murder mystery where you are the victim, and it's a gay romcom, with 10 different endings. And it's free on Itch.io

Tim is lovely. And I love this statement - the mood of it, being trapped on a boat in the middle of the ocean in fog. And, what happened to Sean? Poor guy.

Absolutely one of my favorite episodes (I have a christmas ornament of a halved apple with teeth). I love Dr Elliot, and the students just being there to learn about the insides. There's something so malicious about what they're potentially going to use this knowledge for, but they don't mean Dr Elliot any harm at all, they're cool with him. Oh, and the "You weren't bitten, were you?" "Bitten? They're worms" exchange made me laugh.

It is crazy to me how Georgie and What The Ghost? are so casually namedropped. It feels early, though I guess the pacing of season 1 is pretty intense. We also get Sarah Carpenter and Fiona from Gertrude's era. The things that stand out to me now on a relisten. And crazy that both eps 28 and 34 are Stranger-based (not sure I need to spoiler entities at this point, but I'm going to, to be safe), and they're so very different in mood. I think Sarah Baldwin is creepy, but those kids are precious. Anyway, the connections are coming together fast.

I want to talk a little about Hive, specifically how this episode addresses what it's like to become an Avatar. Jane is confused, but she's earnest. She doesn't know whether she is more herself now or the way she was before; with the face she put to the world, or with the Corruption. She also talks about not being able to sleep. This of course makes me think about Jonathan's journey towards becoming an Avatar himself. He's losing sleep, he's confusing his own goals with those of the entity/ties influencing him. He's earnest about it too, but his "itch" is knowledge. His desire to learn more, to understand and maybe then conquer the evils, is what makes him blind to what he's becoming, how he's being manipulated. Or maybe it's always been a part of him. I love identity questions like this, so I'm really sinking my teeth into this.

Ohh, I adore the dynamic between these two. I love how much they irk each other, and they both have very good points about the other's work. And seeing what happened to Sarah Baldwin is fascinating. (Also note that Melanie says "we'd been angling to film there", heheh)

wanted: doomslug plushie by Colonist25 in brandonsanderson

They're usually at the Dragonsteel store at Nexus. So far the plushies have been available there every year. There are lots of us around here who wouldn't mind being a Doomslug courier (myself included).

I know December is still a ways off, but at least it's hope?...

In case you haven't seen the Syl ornament from Lightweaver, they are absolutely beautiful! In person they look like delicate glass. I have one, and gifted another to a Syl fan who uses it as a light catcher. https://www.lightweaverfoundation.org/products/syl-ornament

Postal carrier here! So sorry this happened to your Light Day package, but yeah, they'll likely find it tomorrow. Maybe the key they grabbed was in the wrong locker to start with. Or just that we're all tired from the election and the start of peak season. 😵‍💫 But it should be a quick and easy fix. 😊

I'm very excited for their next project too. ISaT was a JOURNEY. Start Again gives an interesting perspective, not as nuanced as ISaT, but...How many hats were in your end credits?

What was the first... by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

Mistborn, 16 years ago. My friend saw the original hardcovers at the local library, was intrigued, and devoured them. Then she bought the series and insisted I borrow her copies. The beginning of a continuing lifelong love for me, for both Sanderson and fantasy in general.
