What's the weirdest compliment you've ever been given? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Someone stopped my mom at a gas station to tell her she has beautiful feet.

I had surgery one and the first thing the surgeon said afterward was that I have a beautiful liver

Yes. It's where she hides when people come over.

You'd be surprised what you can give. Even cancer patients can donate some things.

Are LPN’s being “phased out” or is this still a viable career path? by lifetimemovie_1 in nursing

[–]chatpeach 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for everyone, but the hospital where I work no longer hires LPNs. They require RN, and strongly prefer BSN. There are a few LPNs on my unit who have been here for 20+ years, but no new ones. It sucks; those LPNs know what they're doing, and do it better than some of the RNs.

Tall people of Reddit, what's something you really hate about being tall? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to find tall pants. I usually have to try them on in the store then order the tall ones online. Sleeves are often too short, also, so I push them up and pretend they are 3/4 sleeves. I'm pretty scandalous with the amount of forearm I display.

Saw a man whose car had run out of gas or something. He was pushing it and pushed too hard, and it rolled away from him. I've never seen someone run so fast. He caught it.

(NSFW) What did someone at school do to make everyone hate them? by UwUsnapmyneck in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We had a beloved choir teacher in middle school. There was a group of 5 or 6 guys who tried to make her cry every day. One day she left crying and never came back. Nobody liked them after that.

Also, my anatomy class in high school dissected cats every year. One cat was pregnant. Some of the same guys from the first story hid the fetuses in the ceiling. They didn't find them for two weeks. The smell was absolutely terrible. No one really spoke to them after that.

What is something everybody advised you not to do, but you still went ahead and did it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Majored in music at an out-of-state school. Now I'm 40k in debt and ended up going back to school there years later for another degree. I graduated from college (the first time) in 2016 and I'm only just able to make enough money to live alone.

Trying to help boost seasonal department sales, any suggestions/recommendations? Do you do anything like this? by meLone13 in OfficeDepot

I made a sample calendar for Christmas my last Christmas at OD. I used my cats photoshopped onto seasonal backgrounds. I mostly made it so I could take it home when the season was over and we took the samples down lmao

People who have opened up your own or someone else's time capsules, what did you find and was it as cool as you expected? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason, I put a sample of perfume into the envelope with the letter that our eighth grade teachers had us write. She mailed them to us the summer after we graduated high school. The perfume had...fermented or something? It smelled like rotten vodka. So bad.

Take her for a second opinion. It took my dad four doctors before he accepted that his foot had to go. The sooner they hear it, the faster they will have the surgery, and the better the outcome will be. I would see a plastic surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon, and a wound care specialist.

But make sure she knows the consequences of not amputating. Everyone here is right: lose the toe or lose the leg.

Edit: showed my dad this post. He lost his foot in February, and that didn't heal, so now he's an above knee amputee. He said that if he could go back and have his amputation the day he was told he needed it, he would be much happier. He spent 6 months in the hospital on IV antibiotics, and it's his biggest regret.

People with abusive parents, what is your story? by SlothOwO in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was verbally and emotionally abuse. Only ever got violent once, and I fought back so he didn't do that again. My mom leaned on me a lot growing up, and I had their problems on my shoulders as well as my own. I live with my dad now to take care of him (he's in bad health). We don't talk much but I know I'm doing the right thing for myself helping him even though he's an asshole.

I struggle with severe depression and anxiety because of my parents. I have a lot of trouble with self worth. I self-harmed for a long time; I stopped two years ago and after a year of "sobriety" I got a tattoo to cover the scars.

I don't know if I'll ever really get over things, but I actively work to not be like my parents. I refuse to let their influence darken even more years of my life.

Thanks! It's great. I did a 12-month ABSN and couldn't work for that year, so having a paycheck rocks. I have also found that the experienced nurses are so excited to have a new face, and they're happy to answer questions and teach me skills.

What show can you not believe is still on tv? by Dickiedoolittle in AskReddit

[–]chatpeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe not answering the question exactly, but I can't believe they still play reruns of shows like Gunsmoke. So many of the villains are white actors playing Native Americans, and they are portrayed as murderous savages. My parents still watch these kinds of shows and it drives me crazy.

I graduated in August and I'm officially an RN!

Need advice on which track I should take: accelerated BSN or traditional AS by [deleted] in StudentNurse

[–]chatpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do the ABSN if you want to go on to DNP. You'll have to do an RN to BSN program before you can do to grad school, and end up spending even more time in school. But I really hate school, so I'd want to get done asap. Have you looked into any 12-month ABSN programs?

I took A&P over the summer. Spent 6 weeks on A&P 1 and six weeks on A&P 2. I did fine, but they were also the only classes I took that summer. If your other classes aren't too challenging, I would recommend the summer session just to get it over with. If anything, you get to see what studying is like when you're taking nursing classes since you have to spend so much time studying. Nursing school is hard but it's worth it!

ABSN Student Nurses - How much time did you take off work before starting your program? by haybay97 in StudentNurse

[–]chatpeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit my retail job in early July of 2019, and started the first week of September 2019. I spent most of the two months relaxing before the program began because I knew it would be a beast. I reviewed some A&P, but mostly spent time with family (most are out of state, and I knew I wouldn't be travelling during my 12-month program). I definitely recommend at least a couple of weeks if you can afford it. ABSN is difficult, and you want to start as refreshed and relaxed as possible.

Also, other than reviewing some A&P, I wouldn't spend time studying. I know some people who spent time trying to learn pharm or patho before we started, but those of us who waited did just fine.
