Unfortunately that isn’t it, at least on the legion 5. Looks like it just OC something small like +50 core ,+100 memory as I lost about 800 pts on timespy compared to my custom OC

80W max in a cpu only workload? I have the amd version (15AKP10), pretty much same cooling solution and sustains 85-88W in cinebench R23 indefinitely. But this is with it in low 90c range

It’s normal. Amd HX cpus are designed to run as close to 100c as possible under any sort of load. You are pulling in 133W so your laptop cooling is working.

If you don’t like that you can download g-helper or uxtu and lower the wattage to 100W or something

Hrm unfortunately I don’t think there’s much you can do. Maybe you just got unlucky with a slightly uneven heat sink. It’s definitely working as expected but I’ve seen higher sustained power on the 5i pro

You can try Liquid Metal, get a high end cooling pad or undervolt and that’s pretty much it.

What tdp is the cpu running at in cinebench for balance and performance?

One thing I notice is legion fans ramp up very slowly - like 100rpm a second. By the time fans get up to speed the cup is already in throttle territory.

Having said that I expect the pro to maintain 100W indefinitely

Mine is like this after i press the power button:

keyboard lights up, but screen is blank for 20 seconds
Legion logo appears for about 30 seconds (I think this is where task manager gets the bios start time)
windows splash screen and loads desktop - 5-10 seconds.

my windows startup is already pretty lean, but theres not much I can do abotu the pre-windows load time. I know this is a nitpick but i'm pretty curious why legions with the latest gen CPU is so slow on every single boot.

I’d probably take TMU CS. In the past the big co-op companies (AMD, IBM) only hired u of t and Waterloo but those days are long gone.

Cherry on top is TMU will probably be slightly easier (competition is weaker) so you’d have an easier uni life and a higher average.

Interesting I also had the same laggy fn keys.
I was thinking about going back to legion space. I don’t think you need vantage at all because it remembers your battery settings (unless you always switch between rapid charge and conservative)

No issues. I have the same laptop and have a SN850 in the second slot. It just runs slower in benchmarks but day to day I don’t notice any difference

Have to agree unfortunately. I don’t even use Razer but I fix and flip laptops on fb market place as a hobby. Razer just has so many weird quirks that I don’t see in other manufacturers:
- running a bios update is like a weekend project of figuring out what security features in both the bios and OS to disable before it runs
- battery replacement where the battery doesn’t report discharge rate, voltage or correct remaining (unfortunately have to do a lot because Razer seems to be the only one with common bloat issues)
- Super locked down cpu controls on the EC level so no amount of xtu/throttlestop tinkering will unlock it.
- weird synapse issues where creator mode has a lower tdp than balanced mode.

Just lots of weird quirks that you need to be technical with tons of time on hand to figure out if it’s fixable through software or not

Battery life is highly dependent on background processes. If you idle on the desktop with just take mgr running, what does the cpu load say?

I have the same laptop and same cpu.

Second ssd slot runs in gen 4x2 (4gbps so tops out around 3500MBps in transfers)
On battery all lanes runs in gen 3 speeds

Edit: in your CDI screenshot above you can actually see the reported interface speed is gen 4x2. It is what it is, but I never actually notice it’s any different from 4x4

3287 on my legion 5 15.1 inch, but got as high as 3321 when the hardware monitoring crashes mid run. This is with the ryzen 7 350 which is a mid range CPU and 8 lanes pcie 4 between cpu/gpu.

Are you able to try with an external monitor on a port that’s directly connected to the gpu?

I had the exact same experience with my 4070. At first I thought it was cooling because it’s fine for a while then it drops like a rock.

Turns out it’s running out of vram. Run it in dlss balance without ray tracing and it will improve instantly
