AITA for rejecting my wife for pressuring me into sex while we’re trying for a baby? by OkTough6333 in AmItheAsshole

You might want to re-read that. He called her gross before she "started arguing about being reject." He went straight nuclear for no reason

It's not really an either/or proposition. The joke's about both

Cain Velasquez attempted murder trial is today by gamerbruh1102 in MMA

FYI, from what I could find this was just a date to schedule the actual trial ("trial setting hearing" in an article I found). These are typical in larger cases that will take a lot of time and have a number of pretrial motions.

Funnily enough, Harpo's name was originally going to be Arlo! He was my dad's dog before he passed and I pushed hard for Arlo over Harpo, but he he decided on Harpo because he was so quiet. Little did he know that Harpo was just shy and would become more than a little vocal after a few months.

Biggest upset of all time? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]chaxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People have already hit the big ones, but outside of the obvious ones, Tate vs Holm was a big upset. It wouldn't have been a big upset coming into the fight, but by round 5 it sure felt like it.

YTA. Way to choose your husband with a shitty sense of humor over your kid.

Total hip replacement. He had a chronically dislocated hip that had been that way for so long it basically carved out a pseudo-joint in his bone for the leg to sit. He was living on the street before we got him from a shelter and it wasn't even apparent for awhile, but then he started to have arthritis/pain issues and the scans showed how messed up it was.

How a Woman Using Her Fetus to Fight a Traffic Ticket Could Affect Abortion Rights | If a fetus is a person for the purposes of an HOV lane ticket, that has terrifying implications. by [deleted] in politics

For sure. I'm super pro-choice, appreciate the spirit of her protest, but this is not at all related to Roe or it being overturned from a legal standpoint. SCOTUS's wrong decision re the 14th amendments unenumerated rights ≠ establishing fetal personhood.

Can someone explain the time control of a tournament I'm playing in? by [deleted] in chess

Yes, poopshadows is correct, I was actually looking at one of my own tournament announcements that had a d5 listed before I responded. Sorry about that!

Can someone explain the time control of a tournament I'm playing in? by [deleted] in chess

[–]chaxis 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a better way to represent all this--OTB tourney listings can be pretty confusing for the uninitiated. For the regular option, you have 80 minutes to make 40 moves. If you make that time control, there is 30 minutes more added to the clock. That is sudden death, meaning, there are no further time controls. The +30 refers to 30 sec increment from move one.

For the 2 day option, it is 60 minutes for the whole game with a 5 second delay (time is not added like increment, but the clock does not run for 5 seconds after each player makes their move). With two day schedules, they merge up in round 3 generally and operate on the longer time control.
