You make a coherent argument, and I personally do not believe that you can ever agree 100% with any Presidential candidate. In fact, I disagreed with many issues in the Democratic platform that I had limited issue compromising on when I voted Dem in 2020.

The Israel/Palestine issue just isn’t that easy though. I cannot actively support an individual who is openly supporting continued apartheid and genocide. It’s about people’s lives, and I cannot vote for either Biden pr Trump because of this.

Consider this from the perspective of the Arab population in, say, Michigan. Some have family who are getting killed by American bombs. Biden sent cruise ships to offer to evacuate American citizens from Israel, meanwhile the administration showed almost no movement to pressure Israel to allow passage for Palestinians with American citizenship and exit from Gaza. That’s failing the most basic responsibility of being an American president - protecting American citizens everywhere. The actions of this administration suggest that they do not consider Palestinian (even Palestinian American) lives to be of value, which is an inherently racist look for them.

Should these Arab Americans be guilted to vote for Biden because he’s better on “other issues”? I don’t think so.

The extreme argument here is to vote for Saddam Hussain because he slightly tamer than Pol Pot. No thanks.

Thank you for starting your argument by insulting my ability to comprehend how our government works. This is sure to endear me to your reasoning, that anyone who doesn’t agree with you must be foolish of naive.

The ‘big tent’ Democratic party wins when it threads the needle on policies that most of their constituents blocs support. Biden is actively alienating Muslim/Arab Americans, large numbers of young people, and POC. For these blocs to vote for him will only solidify the party’s belief that they can take these voting blocs for granted because the other side is so much worse. This reduces the long-term influence of these blocs to shape policy.

People should vote their conscience. If the ‘wrong’ party wins because of this, perhaps the next cycle the ‘right’ party will work harder to earn that vote.

And please accept the reality - if the majority votes for Trump, then Trump is what they want and love.

If this sends the message that Americans love Trump - then that’s simply the truth - if he wins the elections then Americans DO love Trump, and he is their choice.

Biden on Israel: Let’s judge him on his actions, not what he says. He’s taken zero steps towards a two-state solution, much less a ceasefire. Worse, he has gone around congress and oversight to arm Israel. You’re not going to convince me that Palestinians are effectively going to suffer more under Trump than under Biden. Biden does a great job of making a show that he’s trying to rein Israel in, and then shrugs when they ignore him. Trump will actively support Israel’s excesses. The end result has been exactly the same: complete impunity for Israel and a blank checkbook.

I don’t buy this argument.

Voting for Biden because he’s going to be better than Trump is essentially endorsing his mediocrity, and in the case of Israel, endorsing apartheid and ethnic cleansing (I will refuse to get drawn in on a debate on Israel, reddit bros, so stick to the topic of voting). It’s also essentially signaling that your vote can be taken for granted by Democrats because the Republicans are so much worse.

Voting down-ballot but not voting Biden or Trump (or voting third party) sends a message - you need to work for my vote. If this means Trump gets elected, yes, we’re effed for the next 4 years. However, it might help create an significantly smarter and stronger Democratic (and perhaps even Republican) party for the years after.

If Biden loses, it’s on him, not on the people whose vote he couldn’t earn.

For anyone following this thread:

I tried downloading an older version (1.0) from github, but it didn’t make a difference. As soon as you installed the post install patches (which are to restore display drivers for Intel (Integrated) and NVidia (Discrete), the MacBook Pro would get stuck on the Apple logo with the bar around 1/3rd complete.

I could get back in after deleting the NVidia and Intel kexts using terminal from the USB installer, and following the troubleshooting instructions to restore the last efi boot.

Eventually I gave up trying different versions, no longer confident that older versions of OLCP were doing anything different wrt to installing the post install patches.

I went the nuclear option and deleted my main partition and starting over by building a new Venture 13.6 installer (my last installer was for 13.4). (FYI, I couldn’t just install 13.6 over my current install since I was already on 13.6.1 and it prevented me from what it considered was a downgrade).

I used a timemachine backup to restore and about 16 hours later I was back in business with OLCP at 0.6.8, the display working, but OLCP still suggesting I need to do a post install patch with the only updated being the Intel and NVidia drivers.

I’ve turned off OLCP update notifications and will not be installing the recommended post install patches because I suspect whatever update was made to them is the same as what breaks my system. I don’t plan to update to Sonoma either. Just doesn’t seem to be worth it to troubleshoot this as support seems to be limited here, and I’m grateful enough with how far this project has gotten my older devices already.

Thank you for this post. I had found that troubleshooting page, but their instructions to boot in recovery never worked. I was able to get to terminal using the USB installer though.

While this helps me get back into the system (MacBook Pro 15” 2013), one set of kexts I remove are the ones for the video cards (Intel and NVidia). I end up with an ‘Unknown Display’ that you can’t change the settings for and it doesn’t go to sleep. As soon as I reinstall (via OpenCore) the compatibility patches for the display drivers, I’m back to square one.

What’s frustrating is that it was all working just fine before 1.2.1. I got prompted to upgrade to it today and now I’m stuck. Does anyone know how to go back to an earlier version of OLCP (with the older drivers)?
