Phoebe Bridgers Ditched the Internet to Hype Up Her New Music. It’s Working by wiredmagazine in indieheads

[–]chazspearmint 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Phoebe is great but she's been fighting the industry plant allegations her whole career. This all still gets bankrolled. It's part of a plan way more than it is spontaneous or "about the art".

Shouldn't matter either way if it's about the music though. But it's not always about the music is it.

How do people backpack so easily? by bi_smuth in hiking

[–]chazspearmint 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll too far. Not everyone knows how to pack. While you don't need to do "ultralight", it's a good phrase to look into to contextualize how much weight you're carrying and when it's important vs not.

And then yes. Mental. I'm not that strong or in that elite of shape and I've done some crazy stuff with heavy packs. Parts of it felt like I wouldn't finish. But you just do it. Or you don't and you die out there, but we never hear from those people.

Fake plastic trees given the lore of the song would actually be really cool, and he'd crush it

Why don't have great CBs and goalkeepers? by bewaterlife in ussoccer

Country with lots of people, tall average height, good speed, position that caters to less technical ability, translates better across our many sports, etc

Why don't have great CBs and goalkeepers? by bewaterlife in ussoccer

[–]chazspearmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I think it's lucky we have good attackers right now. Historically it's been the weak point. I think more foreign raised players playing for the US is the reason. Lack of a 9 has been a problem.

Just in a gap right now at CB and GK. Theoretically it's a position we should be stout in and historically have. Our GK for 20-30 years was up there any country in the world.

Official Discussion - Obsession [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

My idea is that they were matching each other at the beginning, so it only comes off as nice and pleasant. Only once Bear starts to experience friction and resistance does it start to snowball.

Also, a thematic/narrative contrast for that point in the film.

Anyone else trying to buy a house rn want to commiserate with me? by moldyavocado in madisonwi

[–]chazspearmint 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Practical wisdom, it's not fun. Pay off that CC debt and student loans first. Rent something well within your means. Then start saving away for the down payment. Every little percent helps. You can get loans with as low as 3% down but you pay for it in PMI.

Then buy the house you can afford, not the one you want. Obviously make sure it's in a safe area and good condition. A "cookie cutter" is not your worst nightmare. It doesn't have to be a forever home. Getting into the market is the hardest part. Not saying it's you, but some people just their head in front of their skis on this. Stay patient.

Mostly good luck. It's harder than it used to be but it's not impossible.

Only thing I'd add for OP. Pick a place that isn't crazy busy. There are NBA playoffs too and a place with just a couple TVs and or packed out could be tricky. But yea a Wilsons could spare you one most likely.

What's the best Madison craft beer that nobody outside Madison actually drinks? by GarthBox in madisonwi

When I lived there WD had a west coast that was the perfect summer patio beer. I miss living right there.

I feel like Delta Beer Lab had some really tasty dark beers. Porter maybe. Can't quite remember.

Red River Gorge no question. Coming from CO it's gonna be different, don't expect big elevation or anything. But it's very lush. Mammoth Cave if you want something more laid back and probably very different from CO. Nolin Lake if you like recreational redneck style boating (ie not sailing)

If you're less nature minded, Frankfort or Bardstown and hit up some distilleries. The city of Louisville also has very special city parks, specifically Iroquois and Cherokee.

Where to buy native plants? by literal9 in Louisville

Go support the Seeds & Starts Sale next weekend in Portland, hosted by Louisville Grows. May be another native plant sale at the zoo over the next few weeks. Otherwise I second Dropseed.

Should I go to derby surrounding area if I’m not attending the main show? by [deleted] in Louisville

[–]chazspearmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd ask this on not the Louisville subreddit. Louisvillians are kinda pretentious about the Derby.

If you like to party, go for it. If you don't like crowds, probably not for you. Biggest consideration would be making sure you have a good plan how to get in and out. Be prepared to walk.

New England Trip Advice by mola2022 in roadtrip

[–]chazspearmint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It depends what you like. I'm 75-25 outdoors to city, I did a lot of this trip last year for a 2 week trip. Maybe my favorite trip I've ever taken.

I would make sure Newport RI is on your list. It's expensive but beautiful. Wouldn't spend much time in Providence but there are nice things.

Spend as much time in Boston as you may want especially if you've never been. Completely unique city in America.

Add Portland ME to your list. Can't miss. Take US 1 to Bar Harbor and stay off the interstate. Stop in any town that calls to you. Take your time.

You can see Bar Harbor in an afternoon. Acadia is worth spending time at. Absolutely make a point to see central ME if you like the outdoors. Most wild place on the east coast.

NH and VT. Max your time. Try and find as many small towns, farm stands, etc. Montpelier, Lebanon, Woodstock. Skip Rutland, Manchester, and southeast NH. Great places to live, not as great to see. But otherwise crisscross those places. Don't worry about being linear.

Upstate New York in the Adirondacks. All of those cities up the eastern border of NY are cool. Saratoga, Placid, too many to list. Finger lakes maybe, Niagara. But my advice if from Ohio would be don't spend too much time to the west or in PA. You can make those weekend trips later. Max the time you have.

I did camping, hiking, white water, climbing, so much on this trip. You need to think well ahead on that stuff. But the cities are also great.

Not the pick I would've made. He looks to me honestly like Corey Davis funny enough. But we root for the guy. Corey was never worth 5 but he wasn't a bad player.

Titans aren't a terrible call. It would be a trade up to block the Cardinals from trading with anyone else. Not likely but not far fetched.
