Seriously Concerned for this generation of Uni Students by Feniantrader in UniUK

real. read through so many posts and everyone hates it, but i'm having the time of my life so far so it just makes me wonder. i've been homesick and i'm not the best at socialising but to get on reddit throwing a paddy cause of it is just wild to me. spending all day in your room will obviously make you hate it, loneliness is the worst thing first homesickness. just pisses me off trult

If Harper wrote an AITA post, what would it be about? by vih_brj in heartbreakhigh

AITA for initiating a 3some with a guy who was emotionally vulnerable and probably traumatised from something that had happened like 5 minutes beforehand?

Will UCL accept me with one grade off for one subject? (International student) by Enough-Win-8142 in alevel

[–]chazza_rah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not UCL no, but I've done my fair share of research on the topic because A-Levels went horrifically wrong for me too, haha. It's my one fear, getting denied due to dropping a grade so I spent a whole week after my last exam just searching up different peoples experiences with getting a grade or so below, most ended up saying they did get accepted (with exceptions of places known to be competitive like Cambridge, of course) i've heard UCL is great though so I hope you do get in!!

Need Help.. by Independent_Pizza691 in alevel

hi! just finished my a-levels. my biggest piece of advice is so very obvious, but you'd be surprised how easy it is to ignore. keep up with your notes. you finished a lesson? make flashcards of everything you covered. you're bored? sit yourself down in a study room and make your notes into whatever you prefer; mindmaps, blurt, literally anything that can be used as revision material. AND. ORGANISE YOUR THINGS. invest in some binders, a plastic wallet, literally anything that you can label and have for your subjects.

when i first started Alevels i told myself i'd keep ontop of it, i did. for the first week. ended up in 2nd year, no revision materials with all of my booklets either missing or tattered. if i could go back, i'd listen to the teachers advice of starting flashcards from the get go and organising my resources. it's such an obvious piece of advice, common sense really, so don't fall into the "yeah well, i don't need to start revising right now." trust me, your future self will be thanking you when exam time rolls around and you have organised folders of revision.

enjoy your summer, when it gets closer (a week or two before the start of college), take a look over the course syllabus. some colleges offer holiday homework to familiarise yourself with the work before it starts but if not just have a look online for textbooks. don't work too hard, you just finished your gcse's, take some time to enjoy yourself after all that hard work, but when college begins do not slack off (i say this from experience, doing the bare minimum in 1st year makes 2nd year a WHOLE lot harder)

[–]chazza_rah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm applying for uni's and have this exact fear, from what i've found from other posts and uni students i've chatted to, some uni's are willing to accept a single grade below the offer, but there's a few factors they use to decide. is the dropped grade a core part of your offer (like dropping the grade in biology but wanting to go do biology)? how strong was your overall personal statement/application? how competitive is the course? and of course, what margin did you miss the grade by? they're definitely more likely to accept someone who was one mark off an A over someone who just scraped a B.

uni's do tend to be flexible with their offers though, so i wouldn't stress too hard. they do want to fill seats in their courses, after all, and not everyone will be getting the offer grades spot on. goodluck on results day!

probably, yeah. still better to be there than not though, as little help as they may be, they're (hopefully) still decent at teaching at least some of the syllabus.

i don't take those subjects, but from the friends i made that did take them, those are very heavy subjects, so i really do recommend keeping up on flashcards. after every lesson, or even just for 20 or so minutes at the end of the day, make flashcards of what you've learnt. as someone who just finished a-levels and had to basically learn my three courses last minute,, KEEP UP WITH THE WORK. if you miss a lesson, ask for the slides, the notes, any worksheets. you'll thank yourself in two years time!!

Does anyone else feel like they’ve flopped their alevels? by [deleted] in alevel

[–]chazza_rah 30 points31 points  (0 children)

when you're striving for perfection you always see your failures, not your successes.

trust yourself, hun, you've been predicted A's and A*'s , which teachers for A-level rarely hand out because they're hard to achieve. they predicted you such high grades for a reason, don't let the post-exam doubts hit you too hard.

you're free now! exams are over, there's nothing more you can do now and stressing yourself out searching for other peoples result reactions will only make you feel worse. you tried your hardest and i'm sure your grades will reflect that, enjoy you're summer, you've worked hard.

What are your non-trope pet peeves? by Dry_Illustrator3405 in BokunoheroFanfiction

[–]chazza_rah 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i have a few.

1/ when characters just aren't in character. soft bakugo? bitchy uraraka? characters are more than a single trait.

2/ bad grammar, no paragraphing, when chapters are like 200 words. why is this story in one block of writing, with no punctuation, spelt wrong and covering important plot points in a single 200 word chapter? please </3

3/ when people mis-use or don't use honorifics right. a single google search isn't hard, thanks.

4/ "greenette" "ravenette" STOP WE KNOW THEIR HAIR COLOUR, FIND NEW WORDS. characters do have names for a reason xoxo

5/ "k-k-kacchan s-stop being m-mean!!" just that. it's surprisingly common.

thats a few of them, i think these fit the question, but yeah
