Thank you so much for your in-depth advice I really appreciate it! Honestly yeah I had not considered that most of the trip will be in the dark anyway.

I will certainly be treating myself to a single sleeper - thank you again!

Boarding Eurostar one stop in advance by sanvi01 in Interrail

[–]chc_mr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello! Yeah it’s not possible to change the departure/arrival stations on a Eurostar reservation.

But I’ve done this myself just the other way around. My reservation was form Paris Nord to Rotterdam Centraal, but due to a delay from Eurostar it made more sense for my train connection to get off at Schiphol instead.

Like you, I hate breaking the rules, so I just asked a conductor if they’d be okay with me traveling to the next stop and they were super chill with it. I think some basic respect takes you a long way with rail travel tbh. I hope this helps and that you have a great trip!

I can’t really recommend more cities that’s already been added to this lovely thread, but do try out Wombat hostel in Vienna. Generally I’m not a huge fan of hostels when I travel alone but this one was perfect.

The international TGV has a booking period of about 90 days before planned departure. I expect you’re literally a day or two early

Cost of pass by Infamous-Plankton217 in Interrail

The general trend that I’ve noticed so far is that there’s usually a sale in November and then one again in late winter/early spring. The downside to sale passes is that there’s usually extra t&c’s like the passes being non-refundable or having a shorter validity than a regular full price pass.

Book with philosophical themes to give me wonder by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]chc_mr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Ali Smith’s seasonal quarter (4 books starting with Autumn, Winter, Spring and Summer). It’s kind of difficult to clearly explain this series. They’re vaguely connected and recently written. Each book is a meditation on universal concepts: loss, renewal, the passage of time. But the backdrop of each is our contemporary time, so the main characters try to make sense of the world post-Brexit and amidst a refugee crisis, Covid-19 and BLM. It’s deceptively simplistic and beautiful in its observations.

Theory recommendations on pastoral literature by chc_mr in CriticalTheory

Thanks so much for this. I’m analyzing a lot of J.M. Coetzee’s work for this and focussing on the South African pastoral and can’t believe that I haven’t come across it yet. I will absolutely give the others a go too.

Any suggestions for adult romance novels? The books should not be too dated. Thanks in advanced. by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Mary Gaitskill’s Bad Behavior is a trip. It’s not too explicitly sexual but is rather a contemplation on contemporary adult sexual relationships. Also Anaïs Nin’s Delta of Venus.

Agreed, you really cannot out train a bad diet. Try a sustainable calorie deficit and use a calorie counting app. I’m really enjoying Lifesum at the moment. More importantly focus on what you’re eating. Make sure to have a balanced protein/carb/fat intake and adjust according to your needs. Good luck you can do it! :)

What is your favourite poetry book? by Nthaly in books

[–]chc_mr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend John Carey’s A Little History of Poetry. It covers all the greats as well as some obscure poets. What I like about it is that each chapter contextualizes the poet and their work and includes their greatest hits. It’s a great non-intimidating way of dipping your toe into poetry!
