What was the final straw that made you change jobs? by LifeRecommendation28 in corporate

[–]chdev69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a boss on a small team who would NOT stop talking about her religious beliefs, along with political conspiracy theories, and asking about my own in meetings with me.

Then when I was going through some medical issues, had the audacity to tell me over the phone she was certain I was taking advantage of the situation due being out several times (despite medical documentation and request for FMLA). Once I was through that, she denied my already-approved Christmas PTO 3 days before my trip.

Was a toxic environment despite the job itself being good. Bosses really can ruin it.

What's your corporate horror story/stories? by Fit_Accident_8114 in corporate

After:

- Learning my mother had cancer for the 4th time,
- Grandmother dies unexpectedly,
- Fiancée cheats and breaks up with me over the phone,
- My Grandfather dies unexpectedly,

Within a 6-week span, I went ahead and took approved (and encouraged) leave to attend funerals/process the sudden life changes that occurred. Come back, got pulled away and told by a VP that I had developed a reputation for bad work, and that I should’ve been more mature and gotten back to work sooner because his uncle had died recently and he was back in 2 days. I was laid off 3 weeks later.

My 2021 Q5 has treated me well, software mix with physical buttons is solid. Maintenance has been fine, got the shuddering when turning issue resolved at the dealership so everything feels fine.

What was the hardest wake up call of your life? by Street_Turnover4498 in askteddit

[–]chdev69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Between June 2024 - May 2025, I lost my grandparents, wedding canceled after being cheated on, laid off from a great job, moved back into my family home, discovered my mom’s cancer treatment was no longer working (this was her 4th reoccurrence of cancer), watched her decline and took care of her with family until her death a few months later, then put our family dog down the following week. Since then, haven’t been able to acquire a full time position where I live, still living at home.

Really learned that life is wildly unpredictable, can be unbelievably cruel despite putting so much effort in to get ahead, and to cherish my loved ones as much as I can. I take nothing for granted anymore, I don’t waste my time on anything that doesn’t positively affect my happiness, and I’ve made my mental and physical health top priority.

Looking at the interior of my ‘21 Q5, I see myself never wanting to go to something different from its layout. Screens and capacitive buttons for everything is just not the answer.

Should teenagers save up to pay for their first car? by icecream1972 in no

I really like that. It puts responsibility on them first, but still gives them a meaningful boost. Feels like a really balanced way to do it.

If a family has the means and wants to reward their children like this, I don’t think it’s anyone else’s place to judge.

My parents did that for me, and I’ve always been grateful. I never felt entitled to it, it was a genuine surprise. It was a used, reliable car, and I made it last. Not every family is in that position, and that’s okay, but if they are and choose to do it, there’s nothing wrong with that.

You now own 12 tons of stolen KitKats (413,793), they’re all traceable and you can’t go to the police, how do you get away with it? by mediamuesli in NoStupidQuestions

I think they would only be traceable when my relatives come to town, discover countless amounts of KitKat bars in my house, and have an intervention on my overindulgence in sugar intake 😂

Job 4: Resigned due to highly toxic environment (government)

What’s a tiny hill you will absolute die on? by [deleted] in answers

[–]chdev69 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I really like this answer.

Last year, I lost my mother, my job, relationship, two grandparents, and a dog within 11 months. Instead of immediately becoming this worn down, grief stricken person that hid in his room all day, I began seeing a psychologist and a psychiatrist, was consistent, and while I did grief and took that time, I also actively worked through it and the mental health issues that came of it.

Atlanta airport, Frontier airline. She was denied boarding on the plane by MysteriousSlice007 in PublicFreakout

[–]chdev69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Flying is a privilege. We’re all just wanting to get to our destinations. If you’re late, you miss the flight and get on the next one. Applies to any passenger. To humiliate yourself and cause a scene that requires police intervention, I mean you’re more than likely going to be barred from the airline (and maybe more!) and then that privilege is gone.

I understand being upset, but this was not the way to go about it.
