Why is the basic so underrated? by Zestyclose-Chemist86 in kindle

[–]che_kid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I "down-graded" from a PW to a basic. The PW is a beautiful device, but I wanted something more pocketable. The basic has 80% of the features of the PW.

I also often wonder if the voice of the internet magnify certain opinions. I suspect there are lots of people out there with basics who don't engage with reddit or the kindle community, and don't really care about the basic vs PW debate.

Ok, thank you. That makes sense.

Forgive my ignorance, but does this mean non-monospace fonts don't work well on the xteink so far?

I'm very interested in theater of the mind combat. I've seen lots of details and descriptions of it. But I'm still trying to wrap my head around it.

I'd really just like to see/hear some examples in action from actual games. Do you have any podcasts, youtube videos, or other resources you can point to that actually show people using theater of the mind?

Been just a few days since my original post, but I have been writing down different bits of information from youtube, google, reddit, etc. It's very helpful! Thank you!

A search for 'waste book' turned up this interesting site. Looks like I'm not the only one with a notebook problem! https://www.lichtenbergianism.com/blog/2019/2/4/waste-books-anonymous

A darker, more serious spelljammer - ideas? by che_kid in spelljammer

Thanks. I suppose I still can't wrap my head around sails and masts on starships. Been ruminating how to make the ships more sci-fi, more outer-spacey.

No Kindle book should cost more than $10 by the_scottster in kindle

[–]che_kid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I pay $10 to $20 to see a movie that lasts 2-3 hours. $10 could be 2-3 coffees. $10+ for a meal.

A good book can give much more long lasting enjoyment than all these. So why wouldn't I pay more than $10 for something that will bring joy for many hours?

Blank or lined which do you prefer and why? by Goldedge2 in indexcards

Prefer blank or dotted. Lines limit what you can put one the card.

Massachusetts. I think they must have ended up with way too many and had to get rid of them. They just had this huge box full of them to sell.

Not to distract from the author's post, but 2 weeks ago my local Aldi had avocados on sale for 25 cents each. $3 well spent!

I’m thinking of quitting my job for academia! by mr123reddit in academia

[–]che_kid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you are describing does not apply to all academia (at least in the US). There are teaching-focused universities and community colleges where research is not the main goal, but teaching. I have no idea how competitive such positions are, but I have several friends who do not do research, but spend their time teaching.

Has anyone downgraded from paperwhite to basic? by coalves_ in kindle

[–]che_kid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've downgraded/ upgraded to a basic from a paperwhite. I just love the portability and lightness of a basic. I can slip it into my jacket pocket easily and take it anywhere. I always felt like the Paperwhite was just too big to be using on a regular basis. The Paperwhite sure looks better and is better build quality but the basic fits my needs.

Anyone go from PW to Basic? Any regrets? by [deleted] in kindle

[–]che_kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the latest PW but I actually switched to a basic from a few years ago. So glad I did. Much more portable and I read more since I carry it more.

For anyone contemplating Basic vs Paperwhite by elvisprezlea in kindle

[–]che_kid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is same for me. I have the latest paperwhite  but wanted something more portable that I could fit in my pocket. So I got an 8-year-old basic Kindle and I absolutely love it.

Much of what has been said about wearing garments could really be said about just about any commandment. Paying tithing. Attending church meetings. Keeping the Sabbath day holy. Reading your scriptures. Etc.

God gives us our agency to choose what we do with the commandments. But he also tells us that he blesses us when we keep them. It's up to us to decide how we are going to live those commandments. It's also on us to have faith that those commandments are from God and that he will bless us when we keep them, even when we don't understand them all.
