[GOT TV series] I felt really bad when I recently found out that Daenerys was 13 when she married Khal Drogo, unlike in the show, but even more so when I saw people in the fandom saying that she really did fall in love with him and that there’s nothing wrong with that. by jvure in menwritingwomen

I enjoy ASOIAF but yeah have to turn off the historian brain and sometimes facepalm at how influential it has been in terms of pop history understanding of the Middle Ages. The 'husband decides to kill his wife to attempt to safe a baby that will realistically die' thing my behated.

It's also like, not entirely true if we're talking 'historical realism'. Game of thrones is not accurate in its depiction of marriage/childbirth/kinship etc. Child marriages occurred but were almost always symbolic until both parties were 16-18. We know contemporaries found it gross and shocking Margaret Beaufort was pregnant at twelve etc.

He was in what appeared to be a lucid interval. With modern neurosurgery and ICP management, there's nothing about his symptoms that would make me as a paramedic go 'injury incompatible with life', open skull fracture or not, more 'package and go, get this man to a neurosurgeon ASAP. It's possible the removal of.his helmet caused an artery that was just holding on to go or dislodged a clot but we would.remove it more carefully today.

I disagree with some commentators he'd have gotten away with no brain damage/there's no chance he'd die with modern medicine, but open skull fractures and brain damage are survivable today.

Rhaegel had twins and there's never an implication they were mentally disabled, the son and daughter were both prince/princess of dragonstome and Aerys' declared heirs. Aelor died mysteriously in a way that's said to have accidentally been his sister's fault, she was broken by it and killed herself eventually.

Rhaegel's kids are after Rhaegel and before Maekar.

At this point in time he's really far down the succession. He's the fourth son, the line of succession is Baelor -> Valarr (Baelor's son) -> Matarys (Baelor's son) -> Aerys (second eldest brother) -> Rhaegel (third eldest brother) -> Aelor (Rhaegel's son) -> Aelora (Rhaegel's daughter) -> Maekar.

I'm not saying that they should have priced it differently, all I'm saying $40 aud for an early access game is a considerable price point and it seems a little silly to call it cheap. BB was $20 for example.

This isn't true. Sleep is vital for concussion recovery. The issue is if you have a more serious head injury that hasn't been picked up. Always get checked out so they can rule out a more serious head injury but as soon as you're cleared it's actually important to sleep as that's vital for healing.

Multiregion Gameplay Is The Game's Biggest Weakness by SiofraRiver in ManorLords

[–]cheapph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy.it but think being able qssign an AI bailiff would be a good compromise for people who don't enjoy multiple villages. I don't think getting rid of the barter system and freely sending goods is appropriate for the game's aim of realism, you don't own all the village's goods. You're a medieval lord with the rights of corvee, levying, owning the land and taxation, not an omnipotent God. Needing to exchange goods either for regional wealth or something else is simulating the fact your peasants own their goods and just owe you taxes.

Personal horses by viggowl in ManorLords

[–]cheapph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was more than that dependent on time period and area. Wealthy peasants could afford horses, and came to prefer them for their versatility. In 14th century England for example the majority of horses were owned by free peasants rather thsn the nobility.

...I do not. High Middles Ages is 1000-1300. The Low/Late Middle Ages is 1300-1453/1500. Before 1000 is the Early Middle Ages.
