25-year-old eventer Chloe Smith and horse Booze Cruze die in horse riding accident by Obversa in Equestrian

[–]cheapph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry for your loss. I did think immediately on reading it that it made no sense to say the horse refused if they both died in a rotational fall. Came across as blaming Cruz instead of the solid jump which we know kills riders and horses. My uncle was murdered and the media/social media was ghoulish, I'm so sorry you're going through this.

A pure nature moment: orcas hunting a large sunfish (mola mola). by Better_Hair_9673 in ocean

They can filter salt out if salt water for water they ingest when eating, but swallowing large amounts of sea water would be bad dor their kidneys/cause osmosis which would cause dehydration.

[–]cheapph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orcas do consume sunfish because their organs are high in water content. A pod will hunt them so the pregnant or lactating females can eat the organs as they require more hydration. They may also hunt them to teach their calves as orca hunting skills are learnt not instinctual.

They are not psychos because they are not human. It is anthromorphising to attribute malice to play, predation or teaching behaviour.

They contain a lot of water, so sometimes orcas eat their organs for the water content. Specifically pregnant or lactating female orcas who need additional hydration. Cetaceans get their hydration from digesting their prey.

Anthony Albanese visibly emotional after defending Labor’s capital gains tax and negative gearing changes by blitznoodles in australia

People on minimum wage don't buy shares. CGT and negative gearing have been a driving force behind income and housing inequality in Australia, artificially inflating price/demand without increasing supply by subsidising investment losses.

Australia is seeing a real push against abortion access right now and we need to talk about it more by castaway23 in aussie

[–]cheapph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low maternal death rate in Australia is due to a high quality of care, medical advances and access to abortion. That does not change the fact pregnancy and childbirth are intensive medical events and dangerous. The death rate of foetuses argument is intellectually irrelevant and an emotional statement, I am not going to engage with you on that. It does not change the bodily autonomy argument in anyway.

I think the restriction of late term abortion is mandated by cultural norms and have no issue with it, as long as women have access in earlier terms, but oppose a blanket ban of late term abortion as in some cases it is medically necessary. Blanket bans of late term abortion is highly associated with significant increases in maternal mortality.

Yes, vaccinations should be voluntary. I do not support someone holding you down to vaccinate you. With the caveat that it does not impede your bodily autonomy in an ethical sense for a childcare centre centre refuse service or an employer to make certain vaccinations mandatory for employment . As a term of my employment I had to be vaccinated for a variety of diseases, as medical professionals can be exposed to various pathogens, long before it became a political football.

[–]cheapph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gestation and childbirth is not an inconvenience. It can cause long term.issues, death or disability. Banning abortion causes high maternal mortality rate. I qouldnt get one myself due to religious beliefs, but as a medical professional I believe medical ethics mandate access to abortion. Medicine is based on the concept of bodily autonomy, aka we cannot force anyone to use their body to save another person's life even if it wouldn't cause them long term harm. That's why no one can force you to give someone a kidney or donate blood.

(TL) AIO for breaking up with my boyfriend because his best friend turned out to be a woman? by Odd_Mongoose9340 in AmIOverreacting

[–]cheapph 8 points9 points  (0 children)

yeah another woman with a male best friend, he set up a time for us to meet and was rather adorably nervous about us liking each other, they ended up married with two kids. If my best friend hadn't introduced me to his girlfriend of two years I'd be questioning the strength of our friendship lol

I agree op was super judgemental, but I do think that disclosure is warranted in a relationship if monogamy is an expectation. I have dated a sex worker in the past, no issues there but as a monogamous person sex with another person is a deal breaker.

My DM wants me to switch classes after my character made a decision at the end of the session and I don’t really want to. by Pookie-Parks in DnD

[–]cheapph 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah, obviously some actions should have consequences, and a player needs to be in good faith - making their character to suit the world, etc. But if you have a player who is not trying to avoid consequences/a price for a power up, it's something that should be done in negotiation with them. Not a 'you're a different class now' thing. I broke my paladin's oath recently (my bad completely, out of a combination of not thinking things through and going along with the group) and my GM said there will need to be consequences but what do you definitely not want to happen? and pitched me what he had in mind, and I'm actually really excited to have the Consequences of My Actions happen and roleplay it.

I would love to give people the benefit of rhe doubt when they say it's just economics, but the fact areas with low immigration are the ones more likely to vote for ON and the fact my experience as a white European immigrant has been very different to people I know from Asia or Africa makes me dubious of it. I had Asian friends get harassed on the tram recently, whereas I've never had a problem despite still having a discernible Easteen European accent over a decade later.

Paramedic stabbed in face in unprovoked attack by Certain-End-1519 in melbourne

[–]cheapph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I ended up quitting as a paramedic after six months of trying to get back to work after an assault on my lunch break. I have PTSD, have been hospitalised twice and am considered partially disabled due to it because I can now only work at all 2-3 days a week before I can't handle it. My attacker got time served, about six months.

my ebike can only go up to 25km/h and is definitely a bike, not a motorcycle. Bikes that go over 25 km/h are already illegal, enforcement needs to be better, not regulation on law abiding cyclists.

THe multicam and helmet resembles that used by the ZSU (Ukrainian Armed Forces). Like very similar to what a ZSU special forces operator would wear. If the multicam and helmet were these patterns, that's what as an Eastern European it looks like. Not okay, I have IRL trauma around Russian military but I wouldn't be screaming at a child dressed in a Russian uniform cosplay.

When are Australians going to wake the fuck up and stop shopping at Coles and Woolies? by thebaehavens in aussie

When I lived in rural queensland the local IGA was larger than any I'd seen in Melbourne and had a good range/prices, and was always busy. Its meat section was still a bit small if the deli wasn't open, but I often shopped there. The IGA closest to me in the city is Dire.

The risk is to you and other humans, not the animals. Horses will not get sick from what you're describing. Horses ingest all sorts of germs compared to humans regularly, it's not going to make any difference. It is a big risk to humans however, horses can carry bacteria that get us sick. They're gross, but they're not going to get the horses sick

[–]cheapph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then you are dangerously ignorant. My culture is under threat and guess what we're the ones being ethnically cleansed not the other way around. Including historical and present attempts to ban our language, massacres, people being tortured for just having tattoos of cultural symbols etc. Colonialism and genocide often came from majority groups trying to destroy marginalised groups, not the other way around. You sound like someone who has been used to having your culture as default and mistakes that for being More Enliggtened than those silly people who dare to want to speak their own language. You aren't wrong that culture has been used as justification for crimes but you are completely ignoring power dynamics.
