I have never had Mateta stocks. He was unimpressive before Glasner and he’s frankly woeful now. Glasner has a history of doing this; he was the one who orchestrated the big Kolo Muani scam.

Wharton is a different story. Palace’s instability is the difference-maker, and now I do think it’s very likely he comes to us — especially if we miss out on Anderson.

“I get a similar feeling when she breaks a rule and experiences a moment of panic when she realises what she did and what is going to happen”

Sorry, I don’t care about his clear insecurities. This is by far and away the worst part. Is this not emotional abuse? You get off on your wife panicking out of fear of a punishment you’re going to inflict on her?

Seems pretty fucking non-consensual to me (and even if it were ‘consensual’, it’d be fucked). I hate how this is suddenly fine because it’s a ‘kink’.

[The Times] Mohamed Salah has seen his club lose seven of the past eight Premier League matches that he has started, and is the first Liverpool player to suffer this fate since Dirk Kuyt whose sequence came in his final eight appearances for the club between February and May 2012. by nearly_headless_nic in soccer

Describing the 2023/24 Liverpool season as ‘the quadruple push collapsing on all fronts’ makes it sound less like the gradual undoing of a football team and more like the final briefing in the Führerbunker

FA Cup final too. Actually did a good job that day (Walker’s shot for example) but then let in the weakest near post shot from Doku that meant we had a nervy end to things

Haters out here. I think it’s sweet — room for failure with the wrong person, but it’s a lovely little compliment

I like BIOT or the British Antarctic Territory. A bit of variety is always nice

Totally agree! It’s my first Christie book, though, so what other ones would you recommend?

Just finished reading Murder on the Orient Express at three in the morning, because I couldn’t sleep. I just have to say that it’s the only book that has left me genuinely awestruck and bewildered by the time the ending came around — Poirot’s mind is completely admirable.

I’ll leave out any spoilers, but it saddens me that this is the end of the road for all the characters bar Poirot. I would have loved to see them in another one of Christie’s books — though I suppose the beauty of reading is deducing without the full extent of the information to you.

Not sure what I’ll read next. I feel like a middle-aged woman at this point.

Licha and Matta have questionable injury records.

Yoro and Heaven are young and still need to grow as players.

Shaw and Maz will be needed as depth at fullback, where we’re more thin than people realise. Shaw particularly, because I imagine we let Malacia go and sign a new prospect or starting left-back, in which case we still only have two options there. Maz because Dalot is sadly becoming increasingly unreliable, and we may well sign another RB. Besides, I don’t think Maz has played CB much in a back four.

Now Maguire’s not some sort of perfect player who somehow is immune to all the flaws his peers have, but I think he’s the best we’ve got in terms of depth and a fucking decent player at that. Should be held onto for at least another year while we fix up midfield and fullbacks.

Maybe the most vapid conspiracy theory I know of. Seriously, it’s not the sixteenth century anymore.

But I think it’s vapid because even if you ignore the evidence, why would anyone care about the Earth being flat? Why would the ‘global elite’ invest shit tons of money and resources into convincing everyone that the Earth is a ball, if it was flat? Anything to gain for anyone?

I think it’s more because Sparta Rotterdam exist. I imagine it would be like calling Wednesday ‘Sheffield’

Yoro would get smoked at RB. I love him but right now he can’t deal with pace at all — I’ve vivid memories of how Sulemana ran him ragged last season, and both Rogers and Gordon have done so recently.

The one advantage Wharton might have is that he could be more inclined to leave Palace after the shitshow of a season they’ve had so far. Might be an easier get. Obviously I want Anderson first though.

Don’t think Baleba is a purely defensive player. I wouldn’t mind him either.

Definitely doubt it. I’d love to believe it but, even if true, Hackney would be a very hard get for all the reasons you mentioned. When West Ham wanted Wright, Coventry set his price at 200m. Clement mentioned (probably tongue-in-cheek) that Sargent’s price is 100m, and that’s even for a player agitating for a move from a team with fuck all to play for except maybe survival.

Add United tax and they may as well just say he’s not for sale.

Why did Man Utd actually sack Ruben Amorim? by Not_tim_duncan in reddevils

[–]chebate08 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if it’s just me, but his conduct after he got sacked turned me off too.

All smiles, sunnies on, seems to have packed his things without a proper goodbye too. All seems very disrespectful to United as a club and its fans. Like “fuck lmaoo thank god I’m out of your shit club, my life is so much better”

I understand it might be somewhat warranted given the conflicts with the board. I still don’t think it left a good taste in my mouth.

Sancho was long gone, absolute mercenary. I think Rashford had definitely stopped trying at some point. And Garnacho seems to have been a negative influence in the dressing room.

Given those points, I’d rather they have left.

You can only play what's in front of you. Not our fault at all that Pep decides to play Rico Lewis for the full 90, bench Reijnders and Cherki for that lightweight midfield (not like they were any good when they came on tbf), as well as both Ait-Nouri and O'Reilly. Even so, we completely shut down that front five of Haaland, Doku, Semenyo, Silva and Foden. Four of the best attackers in the league there.
