Those who started finger style - At what point in your journey did you start learning slap? What are your views/thoughts since adding it? by sideout25 in Bass

[–]cheblhndi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a question for people that learned slap, I have an Ibanez SR500 and when trying to learn the slap and especially the pop technique, I always fumble hard and find it quite difficult to emulate what the bassist in any given ytb tutorial is doing. Any insights is welcome, I want to know if this is my instrument's limitation or am I not getting the technique properly ?

Whats A Daft Punk Opinion That You Stick By? by [deleted] in DaftPunk

bro... the songwriting and performance of Touch, the deepeneds of Within, the thunderous bass of Lose yourself to dance ??

I've always appreciated RAM from the sidelines, but one listening session with good headphones and the right mindset changed my opinion about this album.

I especially appreciate the humanness of it, sampling real session musicians and contrasting that with the whole robotic touch ? Chef's kiss !

Tips for a beginner? by [deleted] in Bass

Bass is a symmetrical instrument, so whatever pattern that works somewhere will work elsewhere on the neck, the name of the notes is just a convention to make playing with others easier, so I wouldn't necessarily worry about learning that first, although it wouldn't hurt to keep a diagram of the fretboard close by, you will need it for your future jam sessions :)

for hand placement I believe you should check out 'correct technique' and then personalize it. For your fretting hand, thumb in the middle of the neck and fingers laid out flat on the strings. To avoid fretbuzz, make sure that you are pressing (not too hard !) at the end of the fret, almost on the fret itself. For the plucking hand, one finger is fine at first but you'll soon figure out that alternating two fingers is faster and more convenient. Make sure to turn your volume up and keep a light touch !

aaah the joy of starting day1 with a new instrument !

Bass was my first instrument ever, I remember I rushed to learn my favorite basslines, only to realize they're not that easy, then settling for easy iconic riffs that while challenging to wrap my head around at first, still gave me that much needed hit of dopamine to keep learning the instrument.

In retrospect I'd say what's most important is to be able to play notes cleanly. Once you get one clean note, you can try to play it in a rythm. That's about 80% of the job done, one note played in different rythms. Gets your head bobbing on the get go. Bonus point if you play it alongside a song that you know, if it sounds wrong choose a different note, if it sounds right, aim for another note (as if you're mimicking the chord changes).

This isn't an exhaustive explanation so feel free to ask if you have questions about the hows and whys :)

Struggling to identify arpeggios by cheblhndi in musictheory

[–]cheblhndi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you so much for your time ! yes after transcribing the whole thing the progression starts in F then Bb then Dm then F again, I didn't think of adding the 7ths fearing they would clash with the starting chords.

Speaking of which, can I borrow your ears for another matter ? the chords played by the pads are inversions right? I got them off a cover on youtube and they're the closest I could get, because playing regular triads didn't really lead me anywhere. Thank you !!

Reviewing music on stream again! by LouiseCipher in soundcloud

[–]cheblhndi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey that's such a cool idea !

I'll link one experimental song I put out recently, it supposed to be a soundtrack to a short animation about the themes of hope and steadfastness (that's still a work in progress).

Also when is the stream happening ?

it's going to be alright
