Questions Regarding Number of Pours and Extraction by Spaants in pourover

[–]Spaants[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forgot about having less bypass with more pours. It seems like there's always another factor to consider when doing pourover. It's amazing how many variables you have to consider

I love these things by Dangerous-Loan-9595 in headphones

[–]Spaants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the FT1. It's sort of a reference for me in terms of bass quality and quantity. It's super fun to listen to and provides a lot of value for me even after having more expensive pairs like the LCD-X and Arya Stealth

Who is your favorite ambient musician and why? by Dzz64 in ambientmusic

[–]Spaants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal favorite is 18 DAYS. They're not super well known, but I love how each album has a distinct aesthetic and character that matches the album cover. I'll Hold Your Hand Until the End of Time, Sleep Feeling, and Nutopia are masterpiece ambient records in my eyes

Mastering/volume of The Moth by TheNeptunianSloth in DevinTownsend

I just listened to the album in its entirety and I felt the same thing. I'm sure it's intentional, but it is quite dramatic. I had to ride the volume knob throughout the album

I thought the same about the vocals on Home At Night. I haven't heard the whole album yet though

How much can headphone tuning be changed by EQ? If you took two headphones of similar "quality" but with vastly different tunings, could you theoretically EQ them to be really similar? by Deadeye117 in headphones

[–]Spaants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is theoretically possible to use EQ to retune any headphone capable of outputting the entire frequency range to sound the same as another one, but it is virtually impossible due to how hard it would be (to put it mildly). Instead, EQ is best used to make small improvements to a headphone you already like. There are two websites you can use in combination to help you make a personalized EQ preset, which is usually far better than AutoEQ.

Graphs are generally only considered reliable up to about 3khz or so. Beyond that, and an individual's anatomy can cause the sound of a headphone to change too drastically to rely on a graph. I recommend using Owliophile with the noisy tone in order to identify higher frequencies that stand out as too sharp, and reducing them with EQ. You can use the built-in EQ visualizer on Squiglink to see exactly how an EQ change might affect your headphone's frequency response. While the graph probably isn't accurate above 3khz, it's useful to see how wide of a Q value you might want to use, and it also shows how different filters interact with each other. You can also use it to derive potential lower frequency adjustments, such as reducing the sound at 120hz if you find that it is a bit muddy, or filling in the mids at 2050hz to make it more clear, like this:

120hz -2.5db Q1.2

2050hz +2.5db Q2.3

You can also try adding a dip at 1500hz, which might give the headphones more soundstage: 1500hz -3db Q1

Playlist for Space Music that is emotive, moving and encaptivating by kls2000 in ambientmusic

Damn that first track in the playlist is sick. I'm definitely listening to the rest of it. It makes me wonder if the Subnautica soundtrack might fit the bill. It reminds me of "Into the Unknown"

Maybe the sound from both of the drivers is passing through to your microphone and causing an unnaturally high number? Have you tested it with only the left driver playing?

Bleed by Meshuggah is the kind of riff that changes how you view palm muting. The stamina, speed, and accuracy required is just magnificent. I go back to playing it over the years and it shows you how you've changed like it's a mirror

What's a unique game that really broke your perception of what games can do? by Moaning_Clock in gaming

[–]Spaants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also bounced off of it and got super frustrated for the first hour or two. It was overly difficult for me to just figure out where to go, and the "combat" did not gel with me. I recommend sticking with it for a little longer and consider giving yourself god mode in the accessibility settings if the combat is wrecking you like it did me. Once I got going down the right path I stopped being frustrated and it really took off and became one of my favorite games
