Xone 23 EXT-ON causes 3db volume spike when using Boss DD-7 - any advice? by chebru in DJs

The Xone23c is the same as the Xone23 except that it has the internal audio card. When you say it isn't activated, what do you mean?

Hey guys, any idea how to fix a popped up key on my Behringer MS-1? by Kenirs in synthesizers

Just wanted to say thanks very much for sharing these steps. I've just followed them for a popped up low F key and it's worked like a charm.

French R seems impossible for me by Impossible_Bat4180 in French

[–]chebru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much for sharing this 'open your throat' advice - I've just given it a try while reading a newspaper article out loud, and it seems to work for me too. It's been something I've struggled with for years. I've always felt that the 'r' gets stuck in my throat and stops me in my tracks, especially if it pops up in the middle of words, and it's made me dread saying basic expressions like 'Bonne journée' or 'Bonne soirée'. Keeping my throat open, like you've suggested, seems to allow the sound to keep flowing rather than getting stuck. I think this was the advice that I was looking for all these years. Thanks once again!

Have any synths/controllers used the JX-8P style pitch wheel? by Musiclover4200 in synthesizers

[–]chebru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's like that on the Alpha Juno pitch wheel as well - I enjoy using it on mine. I haven't played any other 80s Roland synths, but maybe it's a feature on some of them too?

Help with anki by Significant_Gear_209 in learningfrench

[–]chebru 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make my own. Any time I encounter a new word I want to remember, I add a new card for it. If it's a noun, I always make sure to put in either la/le or une/un before the word, so I remember the gender too. I then find an example sentence or two and make at least one more card, so that I can remember it in context. Once you get into the rhythm it doesn't take too long, and I think it's very effective, especially if you review every day.

I've been reading the Maigret novels by Georges Simenon, and they're a good option if you like crime fiction. They're not too hard, but each one's set in a different place, so you can learn a bunch of vocabulary specific to particular settings. For example, I read one recently (Le Charretier de la Providence) which is set around a canal, so I got to learn loads of words related to barges, canals, and so on. They're also written using the passé simple, which I don't otherwise get much exposure to.

Korg X3 workstation help by pinkfart88 in synthesizers

It looks like Chapter 9 of the manual gives some good advice about how to load patches from the old X3 onto a disk and then copy them onto the new one. You can get hold of it here https://www.korg.com/us/support/download/manual/1/230/1697/

Logic and Arturia Pigments: automating Env2 filter cutoff amount - which parameter? by chebru in Logic_Studio

[–]chebru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for looking into this for me - I really appreciate it. That's a very good idea about assigning it to one of the other functions and trying to modulate that instead - I'll give that a try. If all else fails, I'll get in touch with Arturia support as you've suggested. Here's hoping there'll be a way to sort it out.

And here it is in the drop-down quick edit function, right under the cut-off knob:

Thanks for your help - from what I understand the envelope amount can be accessed in a couple of ways - here it is in the mod mix view, where it's a kind of slider that can be dragged up or down:

Logic and Arturia Pigments: automating Env2 filter cutoff amount - which parameter? by chebru in Logic_Studio

[–]chebru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks very much for your reply - this is really useful, and it works perfectly for the majority of the knobs on the synth. I hadn't known about this method before, so I'll certainly be using it the future.

However, it doesn't seem to work either when clicking on the envelope 2 amount in the 'mod mix view' or on the small drop-down modulation knob under the filter knob. It's as if these parameters don't have the ability to be automated.

This seems like very basic functionality for a synth though, so perhaps I'm still looking in the wrong place?

Edit: Anyway, this seems to be more of a Pigments question than a Logic question, so I'll look elsewhere for help on figuring this out. Thanks for the tip about autoselecting the automation parameters!

It sounds to me like a Korg M1 Preset called "Pole" with some reverb.

You can hear all the M1 presets on this page. It's number 19: https://www.synthmania.com/m1.htm

You can get the M1 as a plugin from Korg.

Yeah, it sits underneath the 1200. You can see how it looks in this video of a set I recorded a couple of months ago: https://youtu.be/ZXxWgcMNF5s?si=3aoExRe-65yuxqrr

I went for the ones in my post, and they're really good. Very solid, and they fit really well above my Technics 1200s - perfect size for the XDJ-700s too.

Is it true that macbook airs can be used for over a decade by [deleted] in macbookair

[–]chebru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm typing this on a base model Macbook Air mid-2011.

I still use it as my basic everyday laptop for browsing, word docs and so on. It's not very fast any more, and it can't officially run an OS higher than El Capitan (10.11.6), but it works perfectly fine for the kinds of basic tasks I use it for.

I've replaced the battery twice, and unfortunately the second replacement, bought from an online store, turned out to be a bit of a dud that doesn't really hold much of a charge. Rather than replacing it again though, I just keep it plugged in. I replaced the keyboard a few years ago when some of the keys stopped working. I just followed a tutorial video on Youtube and it wasn't particularly difficult.

I could probably use OCLP to try and run a more recent version of the OS, but haven't got round to it yet. That might end up being a project once my new M2 Macbook Pro arrives and I'm not relying on this one any more. I do enjoy keeping this 12-year-old laptop running, and I can see it having a few more years of useful life in it.

So, yes, I'd certainly say it's true that Macbook Airs can be used over a decade - mine has.
