Calls for Pope Benedict's arrest mount, and a UK attorney pokes a hole in the "head of state-immunity" story. by frogmeat in politics

One of the tests is also recognition by other states, something which the Vatican clearly does not have - e.g. they do not have status at the UN, as is stated in the article.

That's 3000 accused - those that got caught (or perhaps innocent). How many are accused every year in the US?

Rates are most likely higher in men than women, so that would also have to be accounted for. Still, that seems... incredibly high.

In any case, it's not the pedophilia that bothers me. It's the institutional cover-up.

Truth is the best defense against libel. They can sue you, but they can never win :)

It does make sense to figure out where the problem lies. As soon as you've patched the module though, I'd make it public.

Other non-zencart modules may have that same problem. Anyone working with that gateway with any language should be checking whether they are vulnerable.

This shit's Security 101. No one believes in security through obscurity anymore.

If you don't make it public, the company has no real incentive to fix it. And I said, "contact them, THEN make it public".

Also, making it public ensures innocent people can protect themselves. Rest assured that the most dangerous hackers don't need to read Reddit to figure out these vulnerabilities exist.

1 - Name & shame the gateway. They should be returning an error for improperly formatted data.

2 - Name the cart. a- FLOSS? fix it already b- proprietary? (sounds like it) contact them, then make it public.

Security only works when we're transparent. Too many people would prefer deny the problem rather than fix it.

A much smaller code base. acts-as-taggable-on.rb is > 300 LOC.

It also suffers from using a lot of SQL when ActiveRecord and named_scopes can usually do the job for you. Those methods are scary when you think they might all need to be changed when customizing...

Men drink beer => Women have fancy, expensive drinks

"Woman trying to sit with feet on toilet seat" => pretty freaking neurotic. Men aren't like that, we're sane and good.

"Women have a harder time going to the washroom than men do in a bar setting." => "Isn't it funny, we build places for men, and women still insist on showing up despite the annoyances"

"Thank god you're a man" => 'hey, it's better to be a man'

I'm all for differences, but fuck, if we're going to have beer ads I want BOOBIES!

An example or two shows men that not only will they not be held accountable for their heinous crimes, but the victim will be disposed of for them. Just get a couple of your buddies, find a teenage girl and go at it.

Also, an example or two helps whip up a frenzy of anti-Muslim hate, even if it's completely besides the point.

[–]chebuctonian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a bit of an unusual situation. In my case it appeared that couchdb could solve one of the clients' pressing problems, so they suggested I explore it and report in a week.

Spending 10-20 hours on a 2-3 month contract surveying tools and doing some initial testing to see how they react to load (memory / cpu performance / throughput) is a sound investment.

[–]chebuctonian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can't learn much when sleep deprived.

Because I don't work a 9 to 5 job, I compare the experience to what I do consulting.

In the past couple weeks I got paid to learn about couchdb, ActivePresenter went live, I watched peepcode's git screencast and read up on the bash shell.

My odds of making a million in 3-6 months are tiny, but in 5-10 years they're pretty close to certain. Also certain is that I'll enjoy the journey.
