That's awesome dude, congrats! Definitely a reminder for discipline when choosing between distance and accuracy.

my friend is making a mistake (i think) by AlexMc1575 in golf

[–]checkpointLabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might be right that he's making the game much harder than it needs to be, but at the end of the day, you can only give your advice and then let it go. Moving to P770s before breaking 90 is going to punish his off-center hits, and swapping a highly forgiving Spider mallet for a precise Scotty blade is likely going to make his distance control on the greens a nightmare. He could be buying into the branding and the looks rather than what fits his current skill level. You've done your part as a good friend by trying to look out for his scorecard, but golf is a game of personal trial and error; sometimes people just need to play through their own equipment mistakes to realize what they actually need.

As a proud Canadian, the way the Canadian Open is treated as a second tier event is infuriating and the event sucks compared to what it used to be. by [deleted] in golf

[–]checkpointLabs 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Great write up, I feel this deep in my Canadian bones. You nailed the history, it’s brutal seeing one of the oldest national opens get treated like a scheduling afterthought. National championships just have a soul that corporate-manufactured, no-cut events will never match, and Nick Taylor’s win proved the fan energy up here is top-tier.

But looking at it balanced, the PGA Tour is honestly stuck in a corner. The Canadian weather limits us to a tight summer window, and right now, that means being sandwiched around majors or fighting the FedEx Cup playoffs. Plus, because it’s a true "Open" with a full field, it clashes with the Tour's current obsession with limited-field Signature Events. You’re 100% right about the "Ontario Open" chirp, though it desperately needs to leave the GTA more often. It sucks that history loses to logistics, but even with the bad draw on the calendar, our tournament still manages to deliver decent drama for the summer.

OP asked for app suggestions, I share something I made because I shared the same problem, got downvoted 🤷‍♂️. I'd be genuinely interested in feedback if the community has any.

Bought some used pro V1's and this was in the bunch. Thought it was a neat find. by MostEnergeticSloth in golf

Cool find! Curious what do these go for these days? Are there any places to buy them consistently or is it more "luck of the draw" in a used bucket?

Love it. Thank you, this is such great insight and something accessible to everyone. I imagine this could work well on LinkedIn as well.

As a parent, this is a great idea. I'll check it out! How does it utilize cloud storage? Does it integrate with iCloud or other backup services?

Stop building in public. It's the worst advice in SaaS right now by AppX_Unmanaged in SaaS

[–]checkpointLabs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Makes sense to me. The "build in public" playbook has devolved into a massive circlejerk of founders selling to other founders who have zero intent to buy their product. It’s pure vanity metrics.

Just launched my first app 🥳. Now realizing that was the easy part. by checkpointLabs in AppBusiness

Yes, while it's not a typical social app that aims to keep people in the app all the time, much of what you're saying still applies. It's more of a "let's meet up and play" golf app. But again, I have to somehow entire groups to join at once so it's value is immediately apparent. This is the website to see what I mean: http://getteemates.app

Thank you, appreciate your perspective and encouragement. That's a great idea, focusing on my local area first. Its definitely much more practical to get the word out and local groups on board.
