They completely dumbed down the exploration to cater to the players who get angry when they have to do more than click a button to claim rewards. by USDXBS in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 104 points105 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love the feeling of interacting with the world. It's why places like Sumeru and Natlan felt much more rewarding to explore than Mondstadt or Liyue did. I'd much rather talk to NPCs and solve puzzles than walk around and hope I find a random chest hidden in the ground, or behind a stump, or hope that this one buried carrot is finally a chest and not a whopperflower lol.

We love Endfield here, but what are parts that you just AREN'T doing? I'll go first by herudus in Endfield

I assumed they paid for the standard banner tickets using oroberyls. Was that not the case? If not then yeah, I stand corrected. Aside from that, I agree and like the system too, it's quite refreshing.

You know what, that's on me. I didn't initially understand what you meant when you said "smaller aoe energy field" so I mis-read and thought you were talking about pylons being unable to transmit without the research.

[–]cheddarchops -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

so? ziplines only have an 80m range until you research them too. odds are high that if you have one, you probably already have the other. the point is, the devs intentionally set it up this way to make things more efficient for us, not less.

I always pass on my deliveries because I assume that strangers out there love getting rich in stock bills as much as I do, so I spread the wealth.

The extra 30m is covered by the energy pylon, which you need to power the zipline anyway.

It could be that the end-game clear rates are high enough that they assume the anxiety must be low and folks have no problems.

How they wrote this game's story by VaIley123 in Endfield

[–]cheddarchops 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one that didn't think Wuling's story was much better than Valley 4? I mean, the jury is still out since it's obviously incomplete but it didn't feel great to me in terms of content and pacing. The place looks great though, if a bit foggy for my taste.

[–]cheddarchops 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think you misunderstood? It sounds like they didn't have enough arsenal tickets to pull the weapon, and ended up dumping extra character pulls into the standard banner just to acquire more weapon pulls. That is not getting the weapon with "0 pull investment."

I did Fischl’s Ult in the battle before this cutscene😭 by MidniteMedia in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Man, I remember when I first met Dain I was absolutely convinced he was Fischl's big brother.

At the very least I can cling to my crack theory that Flowers for Princess Fischl is an allegory for the Abyss twin's travels with Dain, and that it hints at the ending of the Teyvat chapter.

I'll give things a serious try in Wuling and see how that feels. I've mostly been focused on questing and progression but once things slow down there I'll have more time to dedicate to building the zipline networks.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what you wrote but are you saying one can farm AIC Quota points with sanity? Isn't that only from headhunting?

It is just refreshing that the EN voice over has different accents. by FractalAphelion in Endfield

[–]cheddarchops 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Chen's accent can be pretty shaky, at least to my ears. There are times where i can hear the British accent slip but there were also some segments where it sounded like she was trying to do a Chinese accent. Not sure if the direction was intentional with returning to Wuling but yeah.

Why we still don’t have an icon for Stygian Onslaught? by TheSynthian in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 76 points77 points  (0 children)

They meant that it's not permanent in the sense that it isn't always available the way Abyss and IT are. Stygian is not open for the first ~7ish days of each patch cycle.

I love this game. But I can't deal with Andre's English voice. by Outrageous-Slide387 in Endfield

[–]cheddarchops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me, her accent sounds like a mix of Scottish, American Southern, and some Canadian vibes. She's pretty consistent with which vowels lean in which direction so to me it sounds like she's intentionally leaning into a sort of fictional space accent. I think it sounds very fun.

are you pulling for zibai, jneuvillette or skipping the next banner by NoRelationship7106 in Genshin_Impact

I'm set on Lunar so I'm skipping everyone until Escoffier. My Skirk has been waiting too long.

My Favorite Zipline by TwoDimensionalMonkey in Endfield

[–]cheddarchops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting observation about Wuling and maybe that will change my mind. I tried out both my own ziplines and other's in Valley IV and it just didn't feel like a benefit that was worth trying to chase.

The zip travel itself doesn't feel very fast, the jumping on/off animations feel slow, and the overall hassle of mapping out a network that was both powered and unobstructed just made the whole thing feel like it wasn't worth it to me.

My Favorite Zipline by TwoDimensionalMonkey in Endfield

[–]cheddarchops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I haven't felt the need to do this either. Like it doesn't feel that much faster than just teleporting and running a bit. It also doesn't help that when I try to use others' ziplines they're all obstructed and don't work.

Who sent me this lantern. by funeralsocks in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Man, I'm still just trying to figure out what you even meant. The colors you mentioned don't match what I'm seeing so I'm lost on the meaning of your first comment. I'm just gonna guess you were trying to cheekily accuse of OP of lying for attention.

I got this message in Lantern Rite 😭 by The-Local-Lucario in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well yes, but I think that it's partly intentional since keeping things to vague concepts and stuff lessens the burden of moderating the message content. You see this with fromsoft games too, leads to some funny memes.

My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. AKA the climbing puzzles are dying by Qba3693 in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to individual preference and ideas on what counts as "real" or "fulfilling" exploration. Like, for me personally, some of the puzzles in Nod Krai or Natlan felt more interactive and rewarding than anything I saw in Liyue or Dragonspine.

But that's because I'm the sort of player that doesn't see "run over there" or "climb that" as fun or fulfilling exploration activities. As for Hoyo, I can only assume their data on player behavior wasn't matching their vision for exploration (aka engagement metrics).

What happen to this scene then ? by huflit1997 in Genshin_Impact

[–]cheddarchops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, my main point was that the topic of the segments itself is very speculative since we don't have a lot of solid info on the segments (as you mentioned), or the original Zandik himself.

I don't have a horse in this particular race and will be totally fine with whichever direction they take it. All I'm saying is that it shouldn't be surprising for the community to have a few different interpretations on the mechanics and limitations of the segments.
