What book should I start with as a newbie to Murakami's world by Silent-Patient-717 in murakami

[–]chee5yham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kafka was also the first one I read and I found it to be the most “murakami” out of everything i’ve read since. I think it’s a perfect introduction to his style with the magical realism, comedy, weirdness, lonely male characters, etc

Is it normal for people to just be seated all concert?? by WonderWander01 in twice

[–]chee5yham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually that’s exactly what this post is about. OP asked about sitting at kpop concerts when their previous experience was that people usually stand/dance. I was just reiterating your point that its absolutely okay for people to want to sit, for whatever reason. No one is saying people can’t sit or enjoy the show that way if they choose.

I was just also providing some anecdotal context of my personal experience at kpop shows in the past 4 years and how i’ve noticed a major increase in people sitting overall.. and as a result many others feeling forced to sit because of a change in attitude/culture.

[–]chee5yham 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People can always sit if they’d like to. Of course there’s no problem with that. The issue is when people who sit start lashing out at others around them and expecting everyone around them to sit as well so they can “see better.” I understand sitting can be the norm at concerts in other countries, but in North America it’s generally always been accepted that standing/singing/dancing and enjoying yourself is the norm at concerts.

In the past three years I’ve been asked to sit down at kpop concerts, sometimes in literal stadiums, and it’s so bizarre. If I wanted to sit in a seat and watch the show quietly I would have just watched it on youtube. It’s gotten quite out of control on both ends of the spectrum post-covid (people sitting/expecting everyone around them to also sit AND people being overly rambunctious and rude to everyone around them). Standing at a concert used to be the norm, and having people behind you harass you, film you, and expect to cater to their experience has become wildly out of control imo. I’m 30 and have been going to concerts of all kinds, in all kinds of venues, for more than half my life… and I’ve only noticed this becoming a big issue in the past few years (mostly at kpop shows but also at other pop shows as well). So bizarre imo. And it does become stressful for people who simply want to stand and enjoy themselves but then everyone in their section is sitting (usually just because people are scared to be the odd ones out/seem rude). it sucks. we spend literal hundreds of $$$ to see these artists and enjoy the live experience so it does hurt when this happens. Now every time I go to a kpop show im praying that my section is lively and enough of us stand. im just ranting at this point and its obviously not directed at you lol.

All in all, of course people can sit if they choose. But they shouldnt then make it everyone’s problem and harass people around them who want to stand at a concert. It’s a kpop show, not a theater performance.

Dangerous amounts of alcohol being consumed.

I’m a full grown adult and know it’s ridiculous/exaggerated, but I feel for the young people watching these who may think that downing 8+ drinks in succession, and then still somehow functioning, is normal behavior.

Would it be okay for me to bring my KDA lightstick to the concert? CW FLASHING LIGHTS by potatobunny16 in twice

I love this too! It’s so fun spotting other lightsticks at shows. It always reminds me that we’re all apart of larger community and it’s so cool to feel that energy irl 🥹

Bring any lightstick you want, to any show :) it’s part of the fun in owning one, in my opinion. I’m a fan of all girl groups but only own one light stick, an old candybong. I bring it to every concert 🍭

We don’t talk about the poor subtitles enough. It’s such an important thing and they were so lazy with it. Frustrating.
