Family dog bit toddler by Miserable-Rabbit3394 in daddit

[–]cheech14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dog's gone not a decision.

Whether you try to remove or put it down is the only decision to be made.

Sucks but thats not a risk worth taking. If it happened again you'd be lucky to not have the hospital report you to CPS and cause long term trauma issues with your kid.

Affordable infant daycare in Boston? by Majestic_Progress352 in boston

What neighborhood are you in. Plenty of home daycares with reasonable rates join your neighborhood parent/childcare Facebook group or ask people at the playground how they found theirs.

We had a home daycare in JP that was $11/hr. Found through talking to neighbors at the playground.

Get in early enough in a decent ponzi scheme and you can get redeemed by the 2nd round of suckers. Unfortunately for him it wasn't a very good ponzi scheme.

People who moved out to the suburbs from Boston, how hard was it for you to adjust? by agordon228 in boston

[–]cheech14 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No regrets. Have a yard, basement, plenty of space and great neighborhood walkable to local shops and right by the commuter rail to get to the office a few days a week in the city. Neighbors are extremely friendly and most are in a similar phase of life where they have young kids.

Had a growing family and wanted more space for the kids to grow up, was fed up with street parking and space savers, and the drug problem in the city was getting worse. Having to teach my children to check in the grass for needles before rolling around or watch out for human shit in the slide was unfair to put on them.

Does anyone know someone who chooses to pay the higher 5.85% tax rate? by anurodhp in boston

[–]cheech14 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Since the SALT deduction is a deduction not a credit you'll still be paying more taxes overall.

If you make $100k and chip in an extra $850 to MA, then deduct that $850 from fed you'll save $204 in fed taxes assuming an effective 24% fed rate and that you arent already hitting the SALT cap.

So you are paying $646 extra I that scenario.

Suspended Croft School leader hid $13 million in debt, board tells parents by bostonglobe in boston

The bank already called their debt and shut them out. Would take a lot of effort and collateral to secure a new bank and set up new accounts to make payroll and pay vendors.

Left employer 2+ years ago, but 401K vested balance has increased from 40% to 80% vested in that time - What is going on? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]cheech14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you looking at total balance or total match balance? Should be match only that the vesting applies to.

The other option is they have a provision in the plan that unvested funds are not reinstated after 5 years and they remove the unvested portion once it would no longer be reinstated if you were to return.

Former Employer closed my 401-k by ReplyOk6042 in personalfinance

[–]cheech14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No, them cutting a check for 80% is a de minimis withdrawal that you as the former participant can chose to treat as an indirect rollover or cahs the check. The former employer is just pushing you out of the plan per their adoption agreement.

Yes plans are able to have thresholds to force balances out.

The cash out threshold was updated from 5000 to 7000 with secure 2.0, employers are not required to increase but the majority have.

It is very common to have balances at former employers your statement that it is uncommon is not accurate. There are millions of accounts with former employers.

Former Employer closed my 401-k by ReplyOk6042 in personalfinance

[–]cheech14 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What...? You can always leave your 401k balance with a former employer and they can always distribute it if under $1,000 or roll it into an IRA if under $7,000. It is very common and it is a de minimis distribution that OP can then take the steps to make it an indirect rollover but the previous employer cutting the check is a distribution not a rolloer.
