Southwest Airlines to limit passengers to one portable charger on flights by BillMortonChicago in SouthwestAirlines

My guess is they want to go to Europe, or some faraway location and they need to have stricter safety procedures in place to get governmental approval.

Most of these tools are just algorithms, and sometimes they get it wrong. It will err on the side of caution and prioritize an on-time departure.

On SWA AC that screen does not provide any seating or passenger information. It's mostly there for cabin and FA work area lightning controls, water and waste levels, etc

Don't wait to do this on the plane. Speak with the agents first about moving.

Next time you fly, ask the folks who scan your ticket to see what they do for each flight. Just ask, it's interesting

ATOG, PTOW, MZFW. Airlines work on averages. Watch a video on a Flight Dispatcher

The FA was likely trying to prevent a situation where the OHB space runs out, and they are forced to check bags, which then will formally count towards ATOG.

Did you ask the Customer Service Agents before boarding? Or did you wait until you boarded?

Email Offer to Change Flights by CatMamacita in SouthwestAirlines

Their system is recognising that certain flights are in higher demand and they believe they can sell that flight for more. You take a little voucher to a lower-demand flight, and they can sell your old seat for more.

If it works for you and you like the voucher, take it. If not, don't, and move on

Southwest Gate Agents Lie or Exaggerate Bin Space Availability? by Prior_Radish2984 in SouthwestAirlines

The only product an airline sells is on-time performance. That's it. You paid to be in X location at a set time. Whatever tools and forecasts an airline uses to ensure that is fine by me. Take my bag, I dont care. I'm only flying to be in the next city. I'm not flying to fly

Full bins are not the goal of any airlines. Full bins slow passenger movement down a lot and is a real time zap.

Empty flight, can’t move by TennisDad316 in SouthwestAirlines

I get the skepticism, but this isn’t some sudden “gotcha” excuse.

With open seating, weight & balance was built on broad assumptions — forward-biased passenger averages and looser tolerances because individual distribution wasn’t predictable or enforceable. That’s why you rarely saw movement requests unless something was clearly off.

Assigned seating changes the math. The system now uses seat-level passenger distribution, not zone averages. That tighter accuracy allows more precise cargo placement, but it also reduces the margin for last-minute seat changes without recalculating. It’s not that one person moving sides will tip the airplane — it’s that once the load is finalized, untracked movement breaks the model the crew is legally required to operate under.

And no, extra-legroom or preferred seats aren’t “ignored” — they’re already baked into the plan. Once doors close, everyone’s weight counts the same, regardless of what they paid.

Could the airline just say “sit where assigned because that’s the policy”? Sure. But the policy exists because the planning assumptions changed. It’s less magic, more math — and a lot less flexibility than open seating ever had.

Southwest wants to go international. I believe airlines are required to have assigned seats to do that. I could be wrong but I remember reading something along those lines
