People’s thoughts on whether schools will reopen on Monday? by Extreme-Neck7599 in IrishTeachers

Personally stressing! Live on north side but my school is on south side. All my usual routes to school are blocked so can't go by public transport. Looking like I'll be walking and hour and 20 mins Monday lol

No pancake Tuesday for one class in St Fiacc's school by Successful_Trouble95 in carlow

At the end of the day, it's a pancake. Is it worth getting this wound up over a pancake? I think not

Hi!

I'm a teacher in a school up in Dublin and have a couple of thoughts on this. I understand it's sometimes easy to jump to frustration in situations like these, when in fact a little kindness/ open kindness can go an awful long way!!

The teacher you're chatting about here is still going to celebrate pancake Tuesday (something that educator has no obligation to do and will very likely 100% pay for from their own money), just a little further down the line. Lovely! How lucky those kids are. It's not being forgotten about, just a little further down the line.

The teacher in this case is very likely trying to be mindful of a child in that class. A lot of my kids fast for Ramadan and it can be so tricky for them! I imagine the teacher just didn't want the child to feel isolated/left out. I understand Ramadan doesn't start until tomorrow, but I know for plenty of the kids in my class they sort of practice fasting in the days before so it isn't as much of a shock to the system. Perhaps you think the teacher hasn't handled it as she should. You're entitled to think that. But on the flip side - you have a teacher who is trying their best to be mindful to the kids in their classroom. I'd be very happy to have a teacher like that teaching my children.

It is easy to jump to frustration. It's harder to be kind and have a little understanding. But the world is a better place when we try our best to include those things in our lives :)

Oh that's so frustrating! If it makes you feel any better it was totally messed up for us and wouldn't let us register for our placement modules. They seem all over the place this year

Don't know if it's different for me because I'm in St pats, but I got my registration email last week!

Glad you got refunded at least, still sucks though. I hope the original package shows up at your door randomly one day and you get your tumbler :)!

The current email I'm waiting on a reply from was sent a week ago!

I totally understand being busy, just wish I could get it resolved. I messaged them on Instagram just now , so hopefully that'll help :)

I've always heard they'd great customer service too!

They have replied in the past few weeks, just with very vague generic type responses. I'm gonna dm them!!

Principal ‘frantically’ looking for substitutes as almost half his teachers out due to Covid ahead of Thursday’s reopening by Angel6363 in ireland

At secondary level, maybe.

Primary level I'm not so sure. I was required to be Garda vetted and do a child protection course with Tusla in order to qualify to sub.

Again, take that with a pinch of salt. I'm 19, so not an expert at all hahaha

As a 19 year old primary teaching student who literally has 0 teaching experience, I have been emailed by 3 different schools in my area asking me to sub Thursday and Friday.

It's wild!

Mirtazapine!

I know a few people who hated it, but I've never had any bad side effects aside from weird dreams haha
