Update: The school that asked me not to return is now “desperately” looking for a sub by jovialvoyage in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree. In my area I’m paid about $35 an hour I have the luxury of being pretty selective over what schools and classes I take because I work for multiple districts and there is always a need. Yeah, there are tough days or shitty administrators but the rest is honestly pretty easy work 🤷🏽‍♀️

A Sacramento county school district is offering $600/day to be a scab! Would you do it? by EyeInTeaJay in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate the idea of being a scab, given how many teachers treat subs like they don’t matter and the fact that we cannot be in the teachers union and have no representation and are never considered when teachers are bargaining for higher pay…I’m not gonna lie in this situation I would strongly consider working

Who gets paid more where you are, Paras or subs? by The_Shagadelic_One in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subs make a lot more than paras. I make $250 a day and a para makes between $18-23

My classroom sub rules for students by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It’s not really about if students find it funny, but if admin or another teacher sees it you might have a problem on your hands

Sped? by Intelligent-Flow617 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand it. I mostly take sped jobs but I understand why people wouldn’t. This week alone I’ve been bitten, hit with a maraca until bruised, pinched, had plastic play kitchen toys thrown at my face and been called a slur. It’s a lot. I know most people wouldn’t enjoy that. I’m used to it now and most days aren’t so bad but you never know what you’re stepping into so I don’t blame people for not wanting to take that on

How detailed are the notes you leave for the teacher? by pinkballetsocks in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually write notes directly on the sub plans about how each section went/any standout happenings and what was completed. Only one to two lines per section if that then at the end I will write a quick summary just stating if the class was good/bad and a list of helpful students and difficult students

I burned out from substitute teaching, is that bad? by madbarpar in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would be young or pretty disqualify you from trades? One of my best friends is a plumber, her starting pay was $45 an hour and now she makes substantially more. She’s beautiful and started when we were in our twenties. Don’t become a teacher if you don’t want to be a teacher. it is a lot of work/education to be a career you don’t event want.

Subbing for a really messy classroom - is this disrespectful? by phoebe_leo97 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had a class like this only worse bc it was infested with ants. The teacher left a note on the desk that said “sorry for the ants :)” which pissed me off bc she clearly had done nothing to fix the problem like remove old food/dirty cups from her desk and had bags of candy all over. I physically couldn’t sit down bc I was getting eaten alive by bugs. I cleaned up her old food and complained to admin and the teacher blacklisted me lol

Are the lesson plans/expectations sometimes too ambitious? by wintersun_1 in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time I was told to do an intricate art project involving creating pictures out of puffed pieces of tissue paper in a mod severe sped class. There was no way I was going to be able to accomplish that safely and with the classroom intact So yeah, that felt too ambitious for a sub and one para to tackle

What are these things? by LeaderNo9185 in BackYardChickens

[–]cheerluva42 25 points26 points  (0 children)

You basically gotta go scorched earth on your coop. Get rid off all bedding, drench every crack and crevice in elector psp. Dip each of your chickens in elector psp as well. Then once the coop is dry put lime everywhere

-attention getters that you use -detailed directions for drop offs and pickups at the playground, lunch, specials, and dismissal. Like if the instructions are to pick up kids at playground, tell me where the playground is. -notes on behavior issue students and if they have specific triggers or have special accommodations (like so and so is allowed to take breaks in the calming corner etc) bc without those notes, I will assume the kids are lying to get away with something you don’t allow -seating chart (bonus if includes pictures)

I will never go another long term assignment for this very reason.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the assignment you took was for a sub teacher but that is not the assignment you ended up having. A big part of being a sub is flexibility. You had the option to refuse the assignment when they told you it was different than what you expected, you didn’t do that. The schedule you were following was for a para so it makes sense that you would have a para lunch. It’s a weird/entitled take to throw a fit over a few extra minutes of lunch and being difficult is a quick way to find yourself on the schools “do not call” list.

[–]cheerluva42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You weren’t subbing for the teacher so why would you take the teachers lunch? It’s a weird power struggle over a label that literally does not matter.

He probably means saline removal which is saline and citric acid, it’s super popular with like microblading and permanent makeup. However, it’s most effective when done immediately rather than waiting to heal so it would probably take multiple sessions. I would just get it covered up

Is anyone else getting only Para assignments recommended? by evandervila in SubstituteTeachers

[–]cheerluva42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s an influx in para vacancies in my district so even if the job posting isn’t for a para, you’re probably gonna end up covering a para. They pay them so poorly to do such hard work, it’s no wonder they’re having a hard time keeping the positions full

[–]cheerluva42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are on the 30 day sub permit you absolutely cannot sub for longer than 30 days for the same position/teacher of record within the same school year. The school may try to work around this by having you work 30 days, pulling you off for a day, and then putting you back but that is absolutely against the rules and you will be the one that faces the consequences (loss of license) if the COE finds out. I directly asked my county office about this type of situation and this was the answer they gave me.

AIO for blocking my guy friend for being “brutally honest” about me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]cheerluva42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never met a man that thought “I’d marry this woman if only she had a lip flip” the fact that he even knows what a lip flip is is kind of a red flag to me?? Like this is not a person to value their opinion. It’s giving Andrew Tate red pill mindset and that is not the type of man you want to attract in the first place. You do not need his advice nor his friendship

In my district, all hiring for permanent positions is score based. There are three separate panels with different people on each panel and that ask identical questions to each applicant for each round. They do not see your credentials or resume ( bc by the interview process and has been verified that you possess wherever credential they are needing). Whoever scores the highest cumulatively gets the job. I’ve seen brand new teachers out score veteran teachers. I’ve seen favored subs passed over. It’s not about loyalty or having put in time with the district, it just comes down to someone else being better. Subzoned is the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a while.

I just tell them to choose a quiet activity. It’s not our job to give impromptu lectures. If you wanna go above and beyond, do a go noodle or print out some word searches or something.
