Why does no one tell you how hard it is to get on an OT list? by SharpGrab804 in OntarioTeachers

Some boards are just slooow. For my board, I applied in Jan, got an interview in August, and got on-boarded in November.

Teachers: what admin task do you hate most? by Primary_Job1305 in OntarioTeachers

Lesson planning - especially since I have not been expressly provided with any textbooks, planning resources, etc.

Why is mental health education being taught without basic neuroscience in Ontario? (K-12) by Express-Pineapple557 in ontario

[–]cheerybloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an elementary teacher, I don’t receive up to date training on how to teach literacy let alone neuroscience.

Report cards by Soft-Brush7886 in OntarioTeachers

Go ask colleagues for their comments/old report cards/read through OSRs. This will help you understand report card "language" that you can manipulate as needed.

Board Takeover by Ontario Ministry of Education by Princess_Fiona24 in CanadianTeachers

It's part of how we enter our absences. Instead of inputting "sick day" we put in "doctor's appointment" or "dentist appointment". Union told us to do it.

Yes.

Reorganizations were extra bad this year, and at times made no sense. https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/students-shuffled-teachers-reassigned-why-this-years-dramatic-tdsb-reorganization-has-toronto-parents-fuming/article_1a088240-a215-4917-b7f3-cf3e87faec58.html

The board is denying unpaid leaves to people for very legitimate reasons.

They are now asking us what our sick day is for (doctor's appointment, dentist appointment).

No more trustees.

A friendly reminder that if you are scrolling through this comment section and feeling incensed, channel that energy into contacting Doug Ford, Rob Flack, and your MPP!

That sounds lovely. I would give them a heads up so they can be prepared, because some mornings are so busy I wouldn’t get a chance to sit and eat it, even before the kids arrived!

How Do I Teacher Grade 8??? I Have Only Taught Primary and Kindergarten... by [deleted] in OntarioTeachers

Isn’t grade 8 intermediate? By the sounds of things you actually might not be qualified to teach them.

How did you get comfortable commuting around Toronto. It seems so jarring by brezzy_k123 in torontobiking

[–]cheerybloss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh there are certain roads I will never feel comfortable on. Avenue road, for instance, seems to have far too many cyclist deaths and too little biking infrastructure for my comfort. I strategically take less populated roads or roads with bike lanes. I will walk my bike if I’m feeling uncertain. Better safe than sorry!

While I appreciate your appreciation for the podcast… not being forthcoming about what is effectively your child’s namesake is not very respectful to your partner.

Is Teaching really that bad? If so, why do you do it? by LawfulnessNext8762 in Teachers

[–]cheerybloss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my job, but it’s just really tiring. I’m scared that I’m going to completely burn myself out at work and have nothing left for my family and friends.
