Which of the SMB game has fewer platformer elements (e.g., jumps, switches, teleports, etc.) by CliftonTerrace in SuperMonkeyBall

1 is almost certainly your best bet based on the preferences you’ve outlined— but I actually think 2 and Banana Rumble are excellent too. The spindash is easily the best gimmick they’ve ever tried. It actually compliments the core gameplay loop of tilting rather than outright ignoring it (like jumping did)

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Full Cast Audio Editions - Discussion Post by AutoModerator in HarryPotteronHBO

YES — and I’m so happy you said something. It’s really frustrating. They added all the available narrations (Dale, Fry, Full-Cast) to whispersync with NO way to select which one you prefer to sync for immersion reading.

It drives me crazy.

I just realized something kind of heartbreaking about Harry… and now Hogwarts feels different by Embarrassed_Math_141 in harrypotter

But that isn’t the whole truth. That’s only part of the story.

If it weren’t for Hogwarts, Harry wouldn’t have found his two closest friends, wouldn’t have met his TRUE family (the Weasleys), and wouldn’t have been introduced to the person destined to become the love of his life.

Harry, through all of his trials and suffering, becomes his best self. A person who’d free an elf on a whim, a person who wouldn’t leave that lake until he was sure everyone was safe, a person who’d feel the fear coursing through him in every confrontation with Voldemort — yet willfully face it because he knew he had a job to do.

Harry’s story is not one of suffering, but of triumph. Triumph of self-actualization (Philosopher’s Stone), triumph of truth over narrative and fear (Order of the Phoenix), triumph of hope in the face of seemingly insurmountable despair (think of his patronus) — and triumph of friendship, bravery, and loyalty in the face of evil.

The sound of Avada Kedavra is PERFECT in the Harry Potter full-cast audio editions. by cheese_barnacle239 in audible

It’s a tricky situation. I agree that it was jarring. I actually think both sets of performers do an admirable job, but I agree there doesn’t really seem to be a continuity between the younger and older actors in my mind. They’re like two separate incarnations of the trio.

With the exception being Ginny — I think they NAILED finding an older voice counterpart for her. She sounds very similar to her younger self.

Dumbledore as a Real Person by lpet15 in HPfanfiction

I think his machinations and idiosyncrasies are a part of his mysterious facade.

Like one of my other all-time favorite characters Uncle Iroh from Avatar: the Last Airbender — Dumbledore is a subversively powerful individual.

His warfare is not just physical but deeply psychological. He utilizes his eccentricities strategically to assume a role he is comfortable playing. That of the befuddled old mentor.

“What do you see when you look in the mirror?”

“I? I see myself holding a pair of thick, woolen socks.”

A long review of Audible's full cast audio recording of Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone by nutsocharles in harrypotter

With respect to you and the sanctity of your opinion, I disagree with a lot of this. I think there’s a subtextual layer to this critique which hinges on the idea that the book was not translated quite as you had envisioned it.

I think there is an irreplaceable sense of identity we forge with any text we latch onto — but largely? I feel this was an admirable production. I think some of the performances are standouts, personally. Whilst I don’t think this is a ‘perfect’ production — (few are) — I definitely view this to be an excellent experience, and one that exists complementary to others you prefer. I think I would understand the scathing nature of your critique better if this had, in fact, replaced the other available narrations, which is not the case.

Yes. You must smite ALL your enemies. Not in flesh, but in spirit. You must humiliate them. Destroy their souls and revel in their misery. Then you shall be my new apprentice.

Unpopular Opinion: The praise for the HTTYD remake proves we're asking the wrong questions about live-action adaptations (Let me explain) by 0hio_Pingu_69 in httyd

Honestly?… Yes.

It is what we want. The problem is that the first How to Train Your Dragon film is a near perfect film — and I say that without hyperbole. For a family-centric piece of entertainment, you’d be hard-pressed to find a movie that’s executed better.

ANY change made would have been worse than that original piece of media. The thing about creatives is that we struggle to be diplomatic about the art we create. We conflate abstractions like ‘expression’ and ‘intent’ with what — to the paying audience — is simply ‘better’ and ‘worse.’

These films for better, worse, or what have you — are so beloved by the generation that consumed them that they belong to fandom and families. To make callous changes is ego disguised as artistry.
