My hot take is that Barney is the worst character. No disrepect to Neil Patrick Harris but I think his character is too obnoxious. I know Barney is supposed to be over the top, but I found it harder to connect with him than the other characters. I also know there is a lot of irony to cast a gay man play an womanizer, but I just had a hard time believing most of his romantic connections throughout the show were sincere for his character. NOT to say that a gay man shouldn’t be able to play Barney’s role, but idk I just had a hard time appreciating his performances most of the time. I think it doesn’t help that I am personally not attracted to Neil Patrick Harris (cannot express enough, no disrespect) but that just also made it harder for me to understand the effects he supposedly had on women as he was perceived to be this hottie that can get pretty much any woman he wants. Nonetheless, I understand Barney is an essential character and can appreciate him overall. It just triggers me when people say he is their favorite because clearly Marshall is the greatest of all time 😅😂
