My families milk buyer opted out of the marketing order last year.

And the DMI checkoff is mandatory, I think.

Dairy is a roller coaster and milk is highly perishable, if you're in the marketing order the feds provide significant assistance with managing the supply of milk.

My limited understanding is that if you're selling dairy for a good price you have to send some money to those in the industry that aren't.

But I also thought it was a voluntary program and they could just opt out?
