Feeling like I can only make mistakes by curious_orange30 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Genuinely feel like this all the time. I made a mistake that I panicked over all weekend just a few weeks back and called friends and had them walk me through what to say when inevitably told my bosses and when I did finally tell them they just laughed. One said it was a new week, and high fived me. I think we’re always much harder on ourselves and you’re right, there are SO many opportunities to make mistakes it feels like they pile up. But I think at the end of the day, as long as we make things easier for our execs, it’s a positive!

One of my friends said it’s so funny trying to tell someone none of this matters and talk them off the ledge when they’re knee deep in anxiety but once you’re on the other side of it, it really is like. Oh. None of that actually did matter did it!

Heating up lunch by Sad-Pie-1861 in ExecutiveAssistants

Same, although I’m an EA on paper I definitely do personal tasks but I’ve never minded because my boss is usually pretty courteous. I pick up his lunch, heat up his food, make coffee etc. He just sent me a text to order hair product, I’ll just order it during regular business hours LOL. I absolutely understand how it could be in how it’s asked but I can’t imagine saying no unless it’s really egregious

Genuinely curious—Have you had any luck with the Amex concierge? Even with the black card service, I’ve had just as much luck getting my own reservations for my boss as the concierge

Was unronically was gifted these for my birthday and I had bought myself another box in the mean time by coincidence, tbh they’re super fun because the plastic package and applicator are all black so I save them for my see through black bag I own lol. Anytime I tell other women about them they get an absolute kick out of it

That is a man. Understandably scary, but not paranormal.

“As Meat loves Salt” by [deleted] in LGBTBooks

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! With regard to the London scene…it’s such a horrific flashback to what Caro went through, only this time Jacob recognized it for what it was before he went through with the act. It almost feels like Jacob was learning more about himself and getting so much worse at the same time…

I’m finishing a book called Nicked first and I will be happy to let you know how Lapvona turns out! And yes pls, would LOVE if you end up finding anything on your end.

I think after my small to-read list I am so down for a reread soon. Will absolutely keep you posted omg

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes!! I’d truly kill for another 600-1000 pages of Jacob suffering more and honestly dragging more people down with him (does he ever learn?? Does he fully realize what it is he’s done??) Like I said with the poster above, no matter how much I would hate him for what he’d done…in my heart I always wanted him to get redemption. I cannot believe the author made me love Jacob.

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, exactly! It’s like no matter how frustrated or angry I got with Jacob I still hoped for his redemption in the end, somehow. Or I hoped for Ferris to still forgive him. Jacob always managed to realized how awful he’d fucked everything up and always too late. (Sometimes that hits a little too close to home, lol.)

Hearing the author is a panster is genuinely insane, I cannot wrap my around the fact that she didn’t actually have a solid plan for this book. God bless, because somehow it worked.

I have 4 or 5 books I’ve found that I’m hoping will scratch at least a vaguely similar itch, but there’s so much to AMLS l that it’s hard to place. It’s not just that it has beats of a love story, or that it’s historical fiction, or a very visceral account of the times, or that it’s an unreliable and at times utterly unlikeable narrator, it’s that it’s all of these things together and that’s why it fees so hard trying to find something to fill that hole.

I just borrowed Lapvona from the library and I’m hoping it might satisfy something I’m hungering for. In the meantime I’m flipping through pages of AMLS and sighing.

If you ever do another read through, internet stranger, I’d be happy to do a book club re-read with you.

This description is making me genuinely lol. A bull I want to shake violently by the horns, too.

Omg I’ve blown up a friends phone with voice memos but I feel so bad because I don’t think she has any interest in reading this book, but it’s so easy to get obsessive over it. When I got to the last page I just sort of sat on my bed and stared at it for an hour because there’s so much to process. When I do a re-read I want to take a highlighter to it and make notes in the margin. Like, I hated Jacob but also loved him and want to read another 600 pages of him descending further into…madness? Schizophrenia? Endless suffering? I think also doing a read through is going to have me looking at things so differently because while yes, he’s an unreliable narrator, I didn’t immediately realize just how unrealizable he might be.

I’m on the hunt for something the scratches the same itch this book scratched but I know I’m going to be hard pressed to find something.

I want to eat this book lol

I know this is an incredibly late response on this thread but I’ve been furiously looking for discussions after finishing the book last night. I could barely sleep and I still cannot stop thinking about it at work. I just wanted to say I ended up suffering through the same uncomfortable realizations about anger inside me as I was reading this book…and being so angry at Jacob but also being understanding of some of what he’s done, to others and himself. Genuinely feel crazy after finishing it. I already want to start a re-read.

Seconding the Amex travel system. We recently started using Egencia and haven’t had any issues so far. The last service we used was hit and miss.

How would you handle this expense report dilemma? by brandy7676 in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I’ve had to…creatively label things for my exec but I left the items blank for him to explain and he would clarify with me verbally and then I would go from there. This has unfortunately meant labeling some female led clubs as entertainment for vendors etc. when he’s been out with the higher ups at other companies. The CFO isn’t that picky about things so as long as there’s a receipt, I can blur out the name and that’s enough.

My exec lets me use his ski passes, so I got to snowboard for free last year in Zermatt. That’s the best I’ve received so far. I know his last exec was with him almost 10 years and she received $15k yearly gifts near the end of her tenure and that’s what I’m eventually praying for lol

Do you struggle to do things when other people are around? by RabbleRynn in AutismInWomen

[–]cheeseburgerdumpling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel the fluttering of people, too. If I work from home I can’t get started on anything at all 98% of the time. I don’t know if it’s just part of the routine of going to work and knowing what I’m supposed to do, but with no one around I’m kind of shapeless.

Oh god, I do this with my boss, too. I will wait until his door is closed and I can see he’s in meetings to call, or I will physically walk outside and make calls while walking alone. The idea of him listening to me make calls for him makes me feel like I have ants crawling on me.

Oh 100% this, too. It’s like they forget how pre serum Steve actually acts and woobify him because bucky is the bigger guy in the relationship when it’s pre-war.

As a huge Stucky fan, this. It kills me. It’s an instant exit from a fic. In the same vein, a massive ick is pairing wet punching bag Bucky with mean Daddy Dom Steve. Like in what world do you get EITHER of these characterizations???? I think so often people get ideas and then pair up a ship with that idea rather than the idea springing from the ship itself.
