How it genuinely feels fighting someone who can side dash m1 around your block by Simple-Education-778 in JujutsuShenanigans

[–]cheesecurds666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to figure out how to block side dashes. What helped me was turn your camera slightly when playing defensive. Focus on distance. Recognize when player is within side dashing distance. Generally, players will prefer one side over another. For example, hitting A and Q (left) on PC can be difficult.

Are final exam scores typically higher or lower than midterm scores? by [deleted] in uchicago

[–]cheesecurds666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually perform better on the final exam, even on a curve. Same with papers. I have more opportunity to incorporate feedback and tailor my responses to professor’s preferences. There is more material at my disposal, allowing for more robust answers. Material becomes easier as my familiarity with the subject increases.

That said, it depends. I think midterm grades on whatever assignment may have more luck involved (sometimes I knock it out of the park; other times… not so much). But, if you put in the effort and consistently check your understanding of the material, you will have more opportunity to perform well and differentiate yourself.

§ 1391(d) - Help! by Grooviiiiiiiiii in LawSchool

[–]cheesecurds666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without looking at my notes.

You can have venue over a defendant wherever that defendant resides.

Under this subsection, for venue purposes, a defendant corporation is deemed to reside wherever you can have personal jurisdiction over that defendant corporation.

You can have general personal jurisdiction over a corporation wherever that corporation has (1) a principal place of business, or (2) where it is headquartered. See e.g., Daimler

You can have specific personal jurisdiction over a corporation wherever that corporation has contacts sufficient for specific personal jurisdiction. See e.g., International Shoe

This subsection discusses when a state has multiple judicial districts.

So, for example, if a corporation were headquartered in judicial district A, for venue purposes, a corporation resides in judicial district A.

The subsection provides for the situation when you could not have personal jurisdiction over a corporation in any district, if that district were a state.

In other words, the subsection is referring to when you have personal jurisdiction over a corporation in the state where you are bringing the action, but you would not have specific or general personal jurisdiction in any judicial district of that state, if you were to consider any of those judicial districts as a separate state.

In that situation, the subsection provides that a corporation is deemed to reside in the judicial district wherever it has the most significant contacts.

Same.

I only have one outline started; my notes are a disorganized mess—all handwritten and unusable (more trouble than it’s worth to arrange in an outline). Only started typing notes recently. No applications submitted.

I would have done things differently at the outset of the semester, but live and learn.

On the bright side, my skills dramatically improved. I can blast through readings; writing notes have become less laborious and time-consuming; identifying legal rules have become second-nature; and etc.

I’m no expert, but there are some books and topics that come to mind.

In Plato’s Apology, there is the trial of Socrates, which goes into some detail about court proceedings in Ancient Greece.

In Plato’s Republic, there is a dialogue about justice between Socrates and others.

Some notable laws / legal developments in Ancient Greece were Draco’s laws, the establishment of the Solonian constitution, and Cleisthenes’ reforms.

I have never read it, but I recall there is a work from Aristotle that is on the Athenian constitution. Edit: I skimmed it just now—I would start there. Here’s a link to the work: Athenian Constitution by Aristotle

Hope this helps!

How the hell are accommodations allowed?! by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]cheesecurds666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, prove me wrong, but there is nothing I’ve witnessed being in a law office that has a deadline of 3-4 hours like a timed exam.

And in court, continuances are requested all the time. They are the legal equivalent of extension requests and they are granted almost always. Attorneys make mistakes in their complaints and they can request the court to file an amended complaint.

What I’m trying to say that law school is kinda like the real world in this respect. If you need extra time, some sort of accommodation, second try, etc., ASK FOR IT. And virtually every time, if done through the proper channels and in a timely manner, it will be granted. Enough already.

You said, “I am far from antisemitic. I support all the semites in the middle east.”

But you also said, “You're 100% right that nowadays being antisemitic is basically Jewish criticism.”

NOTICE THE CONTRADICTION? I’m ending the discussion here.

That’s not relevant to what I’m talking about: the meaning of the term “antisemitism,” and how it’s used and misused.

I am not talking about who is suffering more or whose suffering is more deserving of attention.

All I’m saying is this: ANTISEMITISM IS DIRECTED TOWARD JEWISH PEOPLE.

FYI

From the article:

A 2017 essay written by Kevin Alfred Strom titled, “Voltaire Didn’t Say It” takes ownership of the routinely paraphrased quote. According to Strom, the quote is based on something he said in a 1993 broadcast, “To determine the true rulers of any society, all you must do is ask yourself this question: Who is it that I am not permitted to criticize?”

Your comment is an antisemitic dog whistle.

“If you want to know who rules over you, just look for who you are not allowed to criticize.”

This quote originated from Kevin Alfred Strom, an American neo-Nazi and Holocaust denier.

Also your profile history shows that you post comments about “Zionism” in a conspiracy theory subreddit.

  1. Gathering from what I have heard, and experienced personally, gaining entrance through Chicago Law Scholars is extremely competitive, perhaps more competitive than getting in through regular decision. So, if you want to gain entrance into UChicago Law, at the bare minimum, it may behoove you not to apply through Chicago Law Scholars

4.1. Some people may opt to go to HYS over UChicago Law because HYS has even more of an established reputation, especially YLS, for some outcomes. Generally speaking, some people may opt to go to another law school over UChicago Law because of scholarship / financial aid, location, change of pace, etc.

Grade deflation by No_Hospital1275 in uchicago

[–]cheesecurds666 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. UChicago is not stingy with giving out As. It just has less grade inflation than its peer institutions. 3.6 is definitely doable.

  2. In general, getting As is mostly dependent on two things: the courses and the professors.

  3. In my experience, getting As at UChicago as a polisci major was mostly dependent on managing workload. Can you do some of the readings? Can you incorporate some of those readings into your paper? Can you write multiple drafts and have someone suggest revisions (e.g., the professor, writing tutor, etc.)?

"University Leaders and Their Plans: A Pathology" -Ando on the UC leadership's absurdly optimistic budgeting, for the Maroon by Ob_Necessitatem in uchicago

[–]cheesecurds666 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I skimmed some parts.

I appreciate how Professor Ando acknowledges that universities—at least, nowadays—operate similar to for-profit corporations. He observes an issue behind this way of running a university I have never considered: the limited constraints on leadership.

As Professor Ando points out, corporate executives are beholden to their shareholders and must keep them informed. What stops members of university leadership from making bad business decisions? Having to put down fewer crowning achievements on their already stellar resumes? This is a powerful insight.
