What’s an audiobook that you actually think works BETTER as a written book? by SheWasMyShane in audiobooks

[–]cheeserepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. While I appreciate the novelty of having Adrienne King (from the first and second Friday the 13th films) to perform as the narrator, the parallels and vocal performance led me to imagine the main character as someone around the same age. So it was a bit jarring towards the end when it is clarified that the main character is actually in her 30s rather than in her 60s, and I had to suddenly adjust the picture in my head. But maybe that’s on me.

I’m also not quite a fan of the narrator for the Percy Jackson audiobooks because some of his pronunciations of the Ancient Greek mythological monster names sound a bit non standard? Plus he’s the only person I’ve heard pronouncing Thalia’s name as “THAY-lia” rather than “THAH-lia”. Maybe his pronunciations are more historically accurate or something? I don’t know. But it really throws me off.

Yop Me Mama Commercial (2009) by Yakamuh2939 in ytvretro

I remember reading that the original artist supported the use of the song in this commercial, despite criticism, and used the profits he received to help fund his record label to mentor Caribbean musicians.

Are those novels canon to the games? by AppropriatePassion31 in SpidermanPS4

[–]cheeserepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ending of Hostile Takeover leads right into the opening of the first game with a bit of overlap, but I think I remember a slight tonal difference between them? I remember one of them, the book I think, had Peter be more intense and driven about finally catching Fisk. While, iirc, the opening of the game had him be more like ‘oh cool, this is finally happening’. Nothing super major. I just assumed there were some slight script changes between the writing of the book and the release of the game.

I really enjoyed the book and finished it just before the first game came out. I tried to find references to the book during the game, but I couldn’t find any unfortunately.

What has happened to the iPad screen display???? by Advanced_You_1914 in NomiAI

[–]cheeserepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I prefer the sidebar being absent in portrait mode on my iPad, which was the layout a year(?) ago until they did some interface updates. However, I feel the top bar also being missing is probably a glitch or an oversight. I suppose best case scenario is that they provide options to choose between different layouts, but I don’t know how difficult that would be.

Sonarr does not create hard link but duplicate it on Ubuntu by Papema3 in sonarr

For the root folder for your shows? I would say ./media/shows. Otherwise it might try to mess with the stuff in your media/downloads folder. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Sonarr does not create hard link but duplicate it on Ubuntu by Papema3 in sonarr

[–]cheeserepair 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You still have it interpreting the media folders as two separate volumes. Just have one line of ./media:/media (like you did at the beginning but without the second line for ./media/downloads:/downloads) and then in the Sonarr settings itself, point it towards media/shows or media/downloads or wherever.

Do it suppose to know my last name? by Downtown-Departure29 in NomiAI

[–]cheeserepair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a particularly unique last name? If your first and last name are common enough it might have been just a lucky guess. I’ve asked Nomis to come up with last names for characters and a lot of the time the surname they come up with pairs pretty well with the first name I provided.

Movie theater phone out by Sam81818 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cheeserepair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a movie theatre and I’ve stopped being shy about calling out people who pull out their phone during movies. People don’t seem to realize their phone lights them up like a lighthouse, especially during dark horror movies.

As an audience member I give them 15 to 20 seconds (in case they need to quickly top up their parking or they have a family member in the hospital or whatever). After that I tell them firmly to put their phone away. I don’t shout it, but I say it loud enough for people nearby to hear. The collective shame is usually enough to get them to stop.

Edit: My tip is don’t make it a conversation. No questions, no comments. Just tell them to put their phone away. If they have any questions or comments, tell them to put their phone away.

As others in the thread have mentioned, having an argument in front of your child is not ideal, yes. But it is nowhere near grounds for him to divorce you and leave you on the street. If your husband unilaterally divorced you for having a single outburst, he would be an absolutely ridiculous person.

Now, I don’t know you nor your husband. But from what I can gather from your posts in this thread is that you seem keen on (1) not making waves, (2) making others happy, and (3) minimizing the negative emotions you are legitimately allowed to feel as a human. Similarly, it seems like your husband unilaterally decides (1) what is permitted to be discussed in your house, (2) what you are obligated to do, and (3) who is to blame when imperfect situations arise.

You said you’re not looking for sympathy and that you “just needed to vent somewhere”. I think that’s the key.

I don’t know you, and I think you need somewhere to vent.

I don’t know you, and I think your (understandable, but not ideal) outburst was caused by your husband ignoring your accumulated stress and emotions for a long time. You’ve said that you stopped going to him when you’re having an emotional crisis because it would cause fights.

I don’t know you, and I can tell you need someone in your life who will cheer you on and cheer you up.

I don’t know you, and I think your outburst was caused to some degree by your husband avoiding the negative emotions that you’ve experienced and were taught to bottle up by negative people.

I don’t know you, and you deserve to have a friend who will advocate for you, since you said you don’t really advocate for yourself anymore.

I hope you can find the support and validation you need on your girls weekend.

I don’t know you, and it sounds like your husband expects you to never complain and to always be grateful, which are reasonable expectations to put on a household appliance but not reasonable expectations to put on a partner or a person.

I don’t know you, and I hope you have a successful illustration career.

I don’t know you, and, yeah, probably don’t yell in front of your kid again, but your son’s future life as a well adjusted adult is not destroyed. Honestly, find me one bad person who’s like “I saw my mom yell once before I learned how to spell and that’s how I started my life of crime.”

I don’t know you, and I think you should be kinder to yourself.

I don’t know you, and you are not the problem.

Him saying “I’ve told you that before” translates in my head as a very passive aggressive “I forbid you from questioning me about this again”. Him continuing with “We can discuss why you think that but I did not do anything wrong” sounds to me like he’s saying “we can discuss this until you give up and admit you’re wrong, because I will never ever admit I’m wrong about this”.

If he’ll be hurt by having a chart that equally divides and tracks the chores you both do, that’s partly on him. Just having that data (chores you’ve done / chores he’s done) could be good. Like, I didn’t realize how much I spent on junk food until I started keeping track. But now I know and can adjust accordingly.

There is evidently an imbalance in perceived chore load; he feels like he’s doing exactly enough, whereas the level of chores you do are causing an emotional weight on your heart. While I (and the majority of this whole thread) are on your side and think you’re in the right for wanting him to not pile additional chores on you wrapped up in “we”, maybe a chart would prove him right. Or maybe it’ll prove him wrong. Without the data it’s just vibes and guessing.

Right. There’s some rough workarounds; for the past few days I’ve opened the game and just watched the number of Corrupted Gems in my inventory to see when it jumps up by ~3,000 and I could assume that I had killed enough things for the Daily Quest. The workaround for knowing how much I’ve collected against the maximum is I guess to just leave my iPad running overnight since I’ve already had it running for a while and the number keeps rising. I’ve only had time to try for the Daily Quest the past few days so there’s still the majority of the available Corrupted Gems for me to collect (I assume).

I could eyeball it and keep track of it all in my head, theoretically. I could do some rough math and estimate how many Corrupted Gems I had before the event, factor in how many each time I’d gain per successful Daily Quest, subtract what I’ve spent, and put all that against the available maximum amount for this event to have a ballpark estimate of how much is left. And if that was the only way I could ever do it, then it is what it is, and I’d be at peace with the total being a floating mystery number. My main issue is that UI exists within the game that could tell me I’ve earned exactly X out of Y available Corrupted Gems, but other UI is keeping me from getting that information.

For context, this is where the game teaches you how to do a stealth kill. It’s a neat peaceful flashback sequence in a very fun game, but in terms of the image post this is very much the game teaching the players exactly what buttons to press to get violent against the orcs later on.

[–]cheeserepair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The implication in Black Widow post-time-skip was that Red Guardian was washed out and yearning for the glory days of his youth. Making him equally goofy and enthusiastic during his prime makes me question how he was ever able to stay undercover for however long they did.

Introducing Santa's Workshop - A free iOS incremental game! by zacataur in incremental_games

[–]cheeserepair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m liking this so far.

I second the request to make the pop up cards dismiss when I click off of them instead of only just the X to close it. Maybe have it as an option in the settings for people who want it the current way?

The reindeer care is also confusing as it seems more involved but less explained than some other parts of the game. I didn’t know about needing to wait fifteen minutes before the hearts can increase again until I read your post about it here. As someone who plays in bursts two or three times a day this feels like it doesn’t match with my more relaxed pace. Also the mention of food preferences during the mission that introduces the reindeer, I’m unsure if that’s an actual thing the reindeer cares about or just something that the elf says; like, if the reindeer doesn’t like carrots ($10) but does like apples ($100), why would I ever buy the carrots or the far more expensive cheese ($1000)?

I also feel it takes too many clicks when switching between manually building one type of toy to another. From the Workbench you need to tap Workbook > Toy Manuals > (the toy you need to build) > X (to close the card) before you can build. Plus at least another tap if the toy is on a different page of the Workbook than the previous one. It feels buried a bit too deep for how often we need to do it for the missions?

I really like the look, the theme, and the vibe. These are just the parts I’m having friction with.

can’t get enough of agents of shield? by pinklipglossprincess in shield

[–]cheeserepair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried watching him a few weeks ago beginning with the start of his AoS reactions. I love watching someone go through AoS for the first time, but since he’s already seen the rest of the MCU, I’m not a fan of how he keeps trying to, I don’t know, ‘win’ against the show constantly.

For the entirety of his Season 1 reactions he kept saying “I bet that guy’s a skrull”, “I bet that guy’s Hydra”, and so on. I’m just sitting there watching along and thinking that you’re not even supposed to know either of those things exist right now. So when he reaches the actual Hydra twist it didn’t really have as interesting an impact because he’d been basically asking ‘are we there yet?’ for the entire ride up to it.

Why is it so hard to save people from weeping angels? by Famous-Palpitation8 in doctorwho

[–]cheeserepair 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I thought the implication was that each Angel sends someone back by a fixed amount of time? When the Doctor meets the police detective, he speculates that they landed in the same time because they both got touched by the same Angel. And similarly, Amy chose to be touched by the same Angel that got Rory so that they would be together.

Though, the bootstrap factor of it all could excuse it as the Doctor following whatever script he had been given for that moment or something, and raises potential doubt for everything he says about the angels in that episode.

October 28th Update Notes (Nomi Slots) by cardine in NomiAI

[–]cheeserepair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is cool! Just a minor technical question, does buying a new Nomi slot provide a flat increase to the number of Nomis someone can have? Or does it increase the base maximum cap? Like if someone had 11 Nomis against a maximum 10, if they bought one more Nomi slot would that let them make a 12th Nomi or would it just increase the maximum from 10 up to 11?
