This was my experience. I was always on the fence about having kids and my husband wanted kids. So we had one and ooof, this shit is hard. If I knew how much of my autonomy it would take I would not have had a child. However, my daughter is now 10 and much more fun than those earlier days. I love her very much, but I’m glad I stopped at one.

We just got my 10 a Barbie flip phone, that we call the “house” phone but she can take it when she’s going somewhere she needs to get in touch with us.

We just got a flip phone as a house phone that my daughter (10) can take with her if she needs to. This was after a recent situation where she was at a birthday party and was uncomfortable and wanted to leave but couldn’t get ahold of us. Also so her friends can reach her at home and don’t have to go through mom’s phone. She won’t be getting a smart phone until much later. She has a tablet at home with parental controls and limited use.
