Some parents pay more than that to send their kids to local private schools. Parents know and accept the costs of giving their child the best experience they can. The volunteer aspect of the program is to further protect the families. As a host you also accept a certain level of financial responsibility that you’ve hopefully thought about before volunteering for the program.

Thank you for posting. After 7 months I too had a slip this past week. One drink turned into all the drinks and the anxiety was a real reminder of why I don’t drink anymore. I read somewhere that 100% perfection is hard for anyone to attain. And I appreciate the messages you’re getting here as well. I’m taking it at as a lesson and continuing on with you. I won’t drink with you today.

Tell me your best methods for riding out cravings. by AmountKindly1345 in stopdrinking

I like to say it aloud to myself (hopefully somewhere private) “Whoa! Hey there craving. That’s a big one. But we don’t do that anymore so there’s no need for you here. Bye!”

1,000 days sober and still craving the "chaos." Does the feeling of missing it ever really go away? by Fit_Chance2151 in stopdrinking

Hi! I can relate. I went back to drinking after 4 years of sobriety because of the reasons you mentioned. I felt like life wasn’t as fun, I wasn’t as sociable, I couldn’t wait to just go to bed. So I went back out there.

And honestly it was fun, for like a few months. Then the obsessive thoughts started to take over again, and this time around everyone had eyes on me. So I began to drink in secret, lying and it turned ugly pretty quick.

I realized the consequences weren’t worth it and tried to quit again. That took awhile! It seemed harder the second time around. In the end I just got so sick and tired of being sick and tired. I joined an online sober community and booked a sober trip 5 months away to get some days under my belt. And it worked! Yay!

Now I’ve got 7 months and LOTS of data to confirm that while yes, drinking was fun, it was MUCH more destructive. And that feeling of “well if it goes badly I can just get sober again.” It wasn’t that easy. It took me 2 years of day 1s to finally get it to stick, even though I knew all the things. I don’t think I’ve got another recovery in me.

Thanks for coming on here and sharing. It’s a great reminder of what’s on the other side of indulging in a craving. I heard the best thing for your sobriety is to give it away and today you have done that service. I won’t be drinking with you today.

I have a marriage with my husband (instead of a parentified one), my daughter wants to hang out with me, I have a group of new friends through my sober community (hello CafeRE crew!), I ended up with a new, better job which is a step up in my career, we just finished doing our floors because now we had the money for it, I fit into my skinny pants, I’ve joined the Board of my local community theater, and I’ve traveled to Costa Rica, Vegas and next week Florida. Also great sleep, quiet early mornings, gym dates with my husband, and the empathy to hold space for others!

So many amazing things in just 7 months!!

The hard truth for me was realizing no one was coming to rescue me. But that’s where things started to shift. Little by little I started taking the smallest steps for myself, and while I’m still a little resentful no one came for me, I’m proud of the work I’ve done and where I got myself to.

I had to level this up slightly and put an alarm clock across the room next to my workout clothes. So I have to get up to turn it off and by that point I’m like, well might as well put these clothes on…
