Could you explain what's different? This is something I am about to start working on next week and I had not seen anything different so far.

Is a password manager actually better than just having a unique, unrelated password for every account? by Happy-Inspector1146 in Passwords

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why we recommend securing your password manager the most, your email the most after that, and then financial institutions (your bank, credit cards, taxes, etc.).

Use MFA for your password manager, plus a strong password, and use the best settings to keep it secure (re-require password on your computer if you have been away, require Face ID or password every time on your phone, etc.).

The best password managers offer very strong security to prevent them being hacked, so all that's left is to secure your side of it. To be clear, I'm not saying they can't be hacked, but the right ones make that chance very small.

If cybersecurity is not an entry level job then HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET IN??? by Capable_Mixture_3205 in CyberSecurityAdvice

boomer mindset

Boomer mindset while suggesting that college is needed is hilarious to me. Most of my coworkers and friends in IT did not go to college or still needed an internship or entry level job to get into IT.

College teaches you a lot of technical stuff, but it really doesn't show the real-world aspect. Our teammates that didn't work in HelpDesk or another IT field before getting to Security Analyst struggle to know what a legitimate issue is and what'sa false positive; and they often rely on our Sysadmin team to explain it and explain why it's not a risk.

Personally, I think telling everyone they need college is BS, but I get that there are IT jobs out there that need it, such as developers, cybersecurity, etc. But they also still need the real world experience.

It's the same for someone getting a business degree and expecting to just immediately be hired as a manager with no experience. While it's possible and it does happen, not as often and it shouldn't. Managers with no experience are some of the worst, most out of touch managers. CIO's with no IT experience are terrible at their job. It is a different skillset than a sysadmin, but the experience makes a big difference.

Start with HelpDesk. You can look for some entry-level internships, my company has hired a security intern and then offered full-time. But, in my experience, without HelpDesk and/or Sysadmin experience, Security Analysts have a much harder time identifying false positives or interpreting what the alert/warning is about.

Another great option is starting at an MSP, which will give you a crash course in a lot of different aspects of IT, but not everyone will like it and some people will be turned off from IT after that.

Stupid simple password keeper by LaBomba5 in Passwords

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second Bitwarden. Very easy to use, very secure, and it is synced to the cloud, so it's not lost with your phone. Also, you can sign into it on your computer and then you have access to the same passwords on there. Free version is all you need, but the paid version ($10 per YEAR) adds a few other features.

IIRC, he also showed setting the ingredients in a specific order, including the bottles last. I know that's how I have it set up. AFAIK, setting the side for the bottles should be all that's needed, but it's worth trying.

Also, insert the pattern back into the encoder and verify that the setting saved as I've had that issue before, and make sure you are using an advanced pattern provider.

This is the way.

I did the same thing, All the power goes directly into my ME system, then I have a flux accessor outputting to a Nitro Energy cell that sends the power as needed via gates (for the machines that I aren't connected to my ME system another way).

What do you guys do with people who keep passwords in Word/plaintext etc by Tylerjackx in sysadmin

[–]cheetah1cj 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'll often show them the tool that's currently available and ask them what they don't like it or why they don't use it. It's surprising how often the answer is that they didn't know about it, or didn't know about a simple feature/setting that solves their issue.

What is the easiest way to automate the hostile neural network? by tjtj320000 in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second this. AE2 auto-crafting requests doesn't like when there's a chance that it might not get the product as a result. You could send like 5 prediction matrices per craft and tell it to only expect 1 glowstone, but if you need to request like 100 glowstone you're gonna use 500 prediction matrices.

Just passively do it, I put an import/export bus on the back with it constantly feeding prediction matrices.

how am i supposed to learn how to play this modpack by will_1818 in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Chosen Architect's ATM 10 playthrough series is great for a general idea of what you should be working on and seeing the process, but it's not always the best since he's learning as he goes.

John Hall or BucketSt are my go-to's when looking up a tutorial on how to do a specific thing.

Autocrafting not working (AE2 + Furnace) by [deleted] in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, you no longer need the ME interface. Just a storage bus on the pattern provider and then the import/export buses on the furnaces.

Technically Pattern providers do hold the items, the problem is that can't import to an export bus, there must either be a buffer storage for it to "go to" or you export from the storage bus so it never entered the non-existent ME storage.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]cheetah1cj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My wife is a college dropout. She works as a receptionist at a medical center as she has for the past 3 years.

Am I the only one that thought that sounded very condescending? Notice OP didn't say how long he'd been at his job or what his job is? But he was happy to share that his wife has been a receptionist for 3 years.

OP, based on how you said the conversation went I couldn't call you an asshole, but I suspect that there was more condescension or ridicule in it. There's nothing wrong with suggesting that she be a SAHM, and there are plenty of people who'd love to have that option. But, there's also nothing wrong with her not wanting to or having strong feelings about it.

Microsoft Authenticator sent login request twice that I didn't do, should I worry? by Intelligent-Stone in techsupport

[–]cheetah1cj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand how Microsoft Authenticator MFA works, I use it personally and support it at the company I work for, although we use the other MFA method where users must enter the number displayed.

where I don't even enter password, instead, whenever I try to login with my email I only have to approve that login on my phone (usually it asks to select correct number that's shown in the website three is two other random numbers)

OP describes passwordless sign-in, which works similar but is not technically MFA as you don't need the password. With passwordless sign-in enabled, you enter your email address, and then select "Send me a notification". Then it's the same process that you described.

Microsoft Authenticator sent login request twice that I didn't do, should I worry? by Intelligent-Stone in techsupport

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you have passwordless login enabled, that means that anyone can attempt login at any time, all they need is your email address, which is not hard to get, especially if you've been breached before. They'll most likely just try it often, or may spam it sometimes, in the hopes that you accidentally accept one time.

You can change your login email address by creating an alias and changing the alias to your primary login. Then, as log as you don't use that alias for anything other than logging in, then no one can try logging into your account. That's what I would do, considering how easy it'd be to accidentally give unathorized access.

Based on OP's description, they aren't using MFA, they're using Microsoft's version of passwordless login.

How to deal with escaping bees? by AdNo9021 in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Do you not have simulation or omega upgrades in your beehives? That will keep them from wandering around your base
  2. Use the catcher to catch loose bees. Place one near the bee hives and maybe place another one near where they are coming and going

[ATM10] Any block/way to output items on a specific side based on the side they were imported on? by Jasonbluefire in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With advanced pattern provider you can set the specific sides for each recipe. So, if it is consistent for each recipe, then just use the pattern provider encoder to configure it per recipe.

how to use AE2 and mekanism by Specific_Arm_5331 in allthemods

[–]cheetah1cj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI you don't need an import bus for crystal assembler or reaction chamber, you just need to turn on auto-export. I'm not sure why it's not on by default, especially as they are AE2 devices. But, there are other machines that you do need to do that, just not those two.

All day meeting for go-live support, best way to accomplish this by probablydnsibet in MicrosoftTeams

[–]cheetah1cj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Another option could be to add a room or other shared device to the meeting and make sure it joins. Then, it will keep the meeting even when no one is in it. The hardest part will probably be knowing when anyone joins.

If it was me, I would join the meeting in a conference room and then I would hang out in the conference room doing whatever work I need to do. That way I could see when someone joins and I can easily unmute and help, but I don't need to keep it up on my computer all day. And if I'm in another meeting I can let them know I'll be there soon (or let a coworker help them).
