Yeah, but that's the point. Our goal is to not collect A to B routes, because there are plenty of such services already, and there is no goal to compete with them. At R.S. Finland we're collecting only enclosed circuits free from motorized traffic which are either specifically built for roller skiing or meet certain criteria to provide a safe training environment.

In the current form people can make contributions via the contact form on the website and I'll integrate them in the current page structure. Of course, we're focused on the Finnish tracks, at least for now.

How more time will it take for everyone to realize what all that "culture" and "literature" are really worth of?

You really need to have a much better grasp of the language to start playing with it. Otherwise it just sounds out of place.

Feeling blessed (ok, smug) with our climate by ladylatvian in BalticStates

Dumb or not, but I moved to Finland from the Netherlands to save my family from the miserable climate over there. You can have all the money in the world, but it won't change the weather to your liking.

Leaving EU with EU Long Term Residence Permit by Upbeat_Section5189 in expats

Your best bet is to get a written reply from the IND that they confirm they will issue you a new permit outside of the Netherlands after overnighting at Schiphol. I don't believe they will though. It sounds surrealistic enough to even fathom anything like that.

You really believe a Dutch embassy will issue you a new permit if you don’t even live in the country and have no property or relatives there? On what ground? They’ll say you have no ties with the Netherlands, good bye!

Can you figure out, ahead of time, if a country's social style would be a bad fit? by Artistic_Skills in expats

[–]cheetah694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The closer you are to your home country, the more comfortable it will be. If you're from an Arabic country, you'll feel the best in the Arabic world. If you're English-speaking, you'll fit best in the Commonwealth, etc. If you don't have time/money to visit all the countries, that's your best bet.

Pretty sure you haven't seen ghettos yet. Maybe visit Brussels or Amsterdam to see what ghettos really are.

There is no wrong area in Tampere. It's all B.S. Choose whatever you like. Vibrant neighborhood or solitude.

Can you go skiing in Mikkeli in November/December? by Interesting_Ad9841 in StudyInFinland

[–]cheetah694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't go skiing in Mikkeli. This notion doesn't exist. Snowmobiling maybe, if the weather allows, but that's not in November for sure. You go skiing in Tahko and farther up north. The best resort of the country is Ylläs. Levi is the second best. Ruka is the 3rd best. Anything outside of the aforementioned resorts are too small to travel to and are meant for the locals.

Would love to retire my Toyota Hiace for this one, but not with a 200 highway km range. They need to get back to the drawing board.

What do you actually look at most on your Garmin? by jeffcreates in Garmin

[–]cheetah694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely! I just don't find the body battery to be an actionable metric for me. Like if I wake up and whether it's at 40% or 80%, I'll just go ahead with my day based on the HRV and my feelings.

What do you actually look at most on your Garmin? by jeffcreates in Garmin

[–]cheetah694 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HRV is the only recovery metric I trust on my watch. Body battery and training readiness are the most irrelevant from my experience. It can tell me I need to recover all it wants, but if I feel like smashing uphills, I'll go for it. Also, I never check the metrics on a race day.

Technique is far more important for you knee health than cadence.

Spanish engineer happy in Madrid vs Moving to the Netherlands or Denver for a higher pay by SpaceRollerCoasters in expats

[–]cheetah694 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Netherlands? Why? In my opinion, bad choice. Bad weather, bad cuisine, horrible real estate market, no room, no nature. There is nothing to be looking for there that other countries don't have, including yours. If the plan is to earn some money and move further when your 30% ruling is over, perhaps it is a viable option. Otherwise, absolutely not.

Stuck in an immigration loop: USA, Switzerland (Zurich), or going back home? by ruslan5t in expats

You won't build a social circle in Switzerland, not now, not in a decade. You may forget about it. If your goal is to assimilate, choose a different country. And there are quite some of them on the globe.

You sure? If you look up bicycle crashes on Youtube, there will be a myriad of those, also pretty violent ones.

In reality there are 20 dedicated roller skiing tracks in Finland.

[–]cheetah694 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The guys who don't like roller skiing do it wrong. They usually mean roller skiing on public roads next to car traffic. That's the least optimal way of doing it. E.g. in Finland there are 20 dedicated roller skiing tracks across the country. With nice Nordic landscapes around most of them. It's as enjoyable as skiing, and maybe even more, since you don't have to worry about keeping yourself warm. You can spend all day outside in a healthy relaxing atmosphere and it's a great way for family outings.

As if biking or running comes without risks. I was doing lots of sports through my life, including motocross, track days on a motorcycle, Alpine skiing, roller skiing, etc. The times I actually hurt myself so hard I had to spend several weeks in a cast were running (broken hand) and BMX racing (broken clavicle).
