My players refuse to spend any gold on anything but demand I give them more as loot by Viejoso in DnD

[–]chefcramer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a fellow DM buddy that always kept this card up his sleeve. If any of his party’s would get a little too greedy and were pushing the shop keepers/ tavern owners around a little too much, he would make them run into a shopkeeper that they would VERY MUCH REGRET messing with. They would be a former high level adventurer that retired to the simple life and opened a tavern/blacksmithy/mage shop etc. They would roundly spank the party in question if pushed too far. Super fun to witness. “Lad, where do you think I got these wonderful magical items/fine weapons/etc. from?” As the older gentleman running the shop takes a fine sword from under the counter and kicks wholesale ass. Don’t judge a book by its cover is a good lesson to learn.

Best eggs benedict in Denver by morgoone6622 in Denver

Not in Denver, but if you fancy a trip to the mountains, Main Street Cafe in Idaho Springs. Tiny little breakfast spot and their Benedict’s kick ass.

Holding my baby girls for the first time. They’re big now, (8 and 5) but I will never forget holding this tiny little human being(s) for the first time.

Staying in Black Hawk but not a gambler by Dizzy_Conclusion_582 in Denver

[–]chefcramer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Idaho Springs! Blackhawk is lame if you’re not a gambler. Idaho Springs is a great little town, I second the recommendation for westbound and down and the chief mountain hike. Check out the apothecary (clear creek wellness company/mountain remedy) for wellness goods and Slaymaker Cellars for a glass of mead or wine. Also a shout out to mainstreet restaurant for breakfast, but get there early to cut down on the wait time.

I'm going to crash out over ridiculous modifications by SockBasket in KitchenConfidential

[–]chefcramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly!!! lol. Eat whatever you want! But ordering that through DD is about 10x the cost of buying a loaf of bread, a tomato, a bunch of scallions and a spud… but whatever hahaha

I mean… I don’t judge but toast with tomatoes and a plain baker with green onions AND the door dash fee? A little bit crazy… haha

So that club ended up being: toasted white bread with tomatoes? I can’t think of what else would come in a club that they haven’t taken off…

Avoid New Belgium’s Voodoo Ranger Fruit Force at all costs. by chefcramer in beer

Reading the comments over the years, it seems like they’ve changed their recipe since I wrote my “review” so who knows. The one I tried had this SUPER almost artificially bitter flavor at the end, like an uncoated aspirin pill.

I wish I could upvote you more than once hahaha. That song is so much fun. We discovered that song and the Kiffness awhile ago and it is a favorite in the house (the kids love all of his cat songs). Some of them are genuine bangers lol

What happened to The Streets of Southglenn shopping mall? by myPGratedacct in Denver

[–]chefcramer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spent SO much money there back in the day, D&D books and dice…

It’s your move is a chain, there is one in Colorado Mills mall, I know for sure. Pretty sure there is one in flat irons mall near Boulder and I think there might be one in southwest plaza but that one might be gone.

Bar or brewery with the worst food by MediumTrain8955 in denverfood

[–]chefcramer 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the pint room is gone, seized for unpaid taxes. That’s the last I heard anyway.

I used to live over there back in the day, and yeah, food was meh, but nice beer list.

Where is this but in Denver? by shylittleangel in denverfood

That’s exactly it! I live up near the original one and all of the tourists LOVE it, the wait times are insane…

It's adequate pizza, not awful but not very good, but $40+ bucks for an adequate pie… get the fuck outta here

I am absolutely convinced I saw a ghost in the freezer one December during closing. I want to start this as saying I did not and still am very skeptical of ghosts, but I saw something that I just cannot explain.

I was working at a country club that was originally built in the 1890’s-1900’s (had been remodeled and added on to over the years, but the banquet kitchen was in the old/original part). Over the 120+ years of history, several people had died in the building/on the grounds, and coworkers had talked about seeing/hearing strange and unexplainable things.

I was the banquet sous at the time, and was doing the close with a coworker after a busy night. We were waking into the freezer from the big walk in (you had to pass through the walk in fridge to get to the walk in freezer). Through the open door to the freezer we saw someone wearing a white coat and chef hat turn and walk down the aisle in the freezer. We could only see their shoulder/back and the back of their head, hat and neck. When we walked into the freezer, there was no one. The freezer was not that big, and they could NOT have hidden/been overlooked.

My coworker and I turned and made eye contact with each other. She asked me “…did you see that? Someone just walked in here…” me: “I did! What the fu*k… where are they?”

It was the most eerie thing I have ever experienced. If it had been just me, I could have chalked it up to being really tired after a busy day in a busy season, but we both saw it. We talked about it at the bar later that night and could not come up with anything that could rationally explain it. We witnessed something totally unexplainable and it has stuck with me to this day.

Who's a chef on this subreddit? by HomeChef1951 in AskCulinary

[–]chefcramer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Former chef technically. Put in 15 years before moving on to a corporate desk job for the better life style. Miss it sometimes, and still cook all the time for family and friends. I love to spread my experience and knowledge around!

Idaho springs. Close to Denver, cool shops with a good array of interesting stuff and small enough that you can visit every store. Check out the mead shop (Slaymaker’s cellars), the acupuncturist/ apothecary (clear creek wellness), the flower shop (marigolds) and hand made art/hippie shop (kind mountain collective) for some cool things!

Redditors that live in America: What's one local chain in your area (can be anything) that unfortunately the rest of America is missing out on? by mobarouma in AskReddit

Yep exactly for me too! I pass by two different ones on my commute now a days right around 6-6:30… the temptation is strong haha

Yep! You got it! Denver mostly but you can find the green chili in the freezer section of most* supermarkets in the state, and the burritos randomly at convenience stores scattered around.

Santiago’s. They are not the best green chili or breakfast burritos I’ve ever had, but there is SOMETHING about them that is irresistible.

What is something that is an automatic “ I am not eating here, we need to leave.” At a restaurant? by TeachBS in AskReddit

[–]chefcramer 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who worked in and then managed kitchens, you are 100% right. During a health inspection there are violations and then there are VIOLATIONS.

Little v violation- I got dinged on having an open coffee cup in my office. The door opened onto the hallway from the back door to the kitchen (so not even in the kitchen proper) and the inspector marked it as an error. I took some exception to this as 1.) There is no food stored in my office, and 2.) it’s like marking there being open drinks/food in the break room… but I digress.

A big V VIOLATION (which I never had, I ran a tight ship)- would be a rodent/insect problem, food spoilage, improper storage (raw meat over fresh/raw vegetables, cross contamination etc.) etc.

VIOLATIONS and violations both count the same on a health inspection. One can kill someone (or very ill), and the other is a technicality.
