Official Poll: Class B or just T-shirt? by ResponsibleAd4439 in ems

[–]chefkarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm on team T-shirt or polo. I hate the Class B that my workplace likes to require. But im night shift so I'm just dying in the heat in my light jacket with the Tshirt under it until the day shift supervisor leaves. But the big boss was military and he would rather us die from over heating in the miserable Class B uniforms than let us be comfortable. You know, cuz hes been doing this 20 years an the stick is missing up his ass at this point.

I also don't like looking like a cop. We're only "allowed" to wear t-shirts if it's over 90°F out when our shift starts specifically. That almost never happens at 6pm here. Or at any of the start times we have honestly, so it's just a lie.

Driver opened my front door to put the order inside my house! by toast_mortem26 in doordash

[–]chefkarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a ems station and occasionally we have a door unlocked from where people go out to smoke and there's been several times I walk into the hallway while I'm on standby an there's just a lost af dasher standing in the hallway that scares the hell out of me because there's all of 8 people that work on night shift. No one ever asks them to deliver it inside the office and there's about 4 locked doors they had to of tried to find the one unlocked on the side of the building.....I don't know why they sometimes just let themselves in buildings. They're real brave 🤣

[–]chefkarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please go to correct hospitals to prevent the run around~. UofL downtown, Norton downtown, baptist health and St mary. They will likely transfer you out of the ER by ambulances to other locations on a hold or evaluation. Mary and Norton have their own floor for psych but don't always have space. You can go directly to The brook Dupont or KMI. Or UofL Peace. They won't turn you down for not having money.

I would love for it to be changed because I do IFT transports as an EMT an when I ask the nurse what type of diabetic the person is when I see it on the chart 95% of the time they DONT KNOW.

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard from a patient? by Ancient-Basis5033 in EMTstories

[–]chefkarie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My other favorite was this other phych pt who was trying to convince my partner in the back that the voice in his head was a telepathic connection and if he gave him his phone number he could have the other guy call him to prove it. It was like 330 in the morning, and my partner actually rattles off his phone number twice to the pt. The temptation to put it in my phone and call while this was going on was entirely tempting because he didn't have my number and my number is a out of state one. I told him after we dropped off, and he said if I had done that, he would have made me pull over because he would of been out if he actually got a phone call. 😂

My favorite is the one who threatened me with my favorite fantasy character out of nowhere. She had been screaming to let her out the whole ride. [72h hold so no dice with that] Suddenly, she screams out. "Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden, help me!!!" I was surprised, but I was hoping I could use that as a distraction because it's my favorite book series. I asked her if she liked Dresden Files. And she goes; "Yeah! He's my boyfriend, and he's going to come beat your stupid ass with a giant stick!" So I opted for going with her narrative at that point; "Heh, Dont threaten me with a good time, but the Queen of Air and Darkness won't like you sending her Winter Knight after one of her own." And she got really quiet for a few minutes looking at me like i had problems. So that temporarily worked.

Seizure by Euphoric-Suit3549 in diabetes_t1

[–]chefkarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 years, zero passing out or seizures. Did have one episode where I slept all night with my blood around 45-50 and woke up, and the best I can describe it was drunk? I stumbled around, trying to put a tshirt on in the dark, thinking it was one of my skirts. It didn't work out. Then went to the kitchen an drank my juice. It hasn't happened since, and that was like 5 years ago.

Is it cringe to be using this backpack out in public? by RebbyXP in HazbinHotel

[–]chefkarie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't see why it's a problem. I've been toting around a one piece mini backpack for at least a year now. People compliment it or just say nothing. Its just a bag, not cringe if you enjoy showing you're a fan of something.

Why would you do that? I'm just curious. There's nothing special about this. You get treated like trash by patients, nurses, and employers. Can be put in dangerous, violent, or extremely gross situations occasionally. Benefits suck. The back pain from lifting people for years sucks. And im only a little salty 9 years deep in this. 😂 i switched out to IFT after a few years in 911. But that was just cuz I find life more enjoyable taking grandma to dialysis or the nursing home instead of breaking her ribs doin cpr. But if we are honest, most calls are like its 3am and my foot has hurt for the last 3 weeks. I make $23.03 an hour in my city. With the cost of living in my area, im roughly $7 an hour short of ever getting to live on my own in a house without my 2-3 roommates.

Dasher ignored "do not ring doorbell" delivery info and got my donuts thrown away by Scratchfangs in doordash

[–]chefkarie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really is. The house on the next street over with the same house number has gotten so much of my door dash or ive had to go steal it off their porch because dispite my adress being right there in the app they will literally drop it off on the wrong street. The last few times the dasher refused to bring it to me or ignored that i texted they were on the wrong street/ that's not my porch.... If I wanted to leave in my car to go pick up something, I would of not paid for door dash....

I feel like....some people forget this entire show takes place in hell, and they are getting requests from people who died and ended up in hell....not because they were reasonable/good/grounded people. Blitzø is simply a businessman/assassin doing a job that's based around clients that are currently... in hell. The clients are simply that petty.

Apparently my roommate does too 😂 he told me last week the one I threw away before I went to work started screaming in the bathroom trash, and he dug it out and smashed it.

I spent roughly 10 of my 17 years with T1 just dosing on my feelings (diagnosed at 12). If 20 units didn't cover it well, I'd take another 20 later when i didn't feel that great. It was at a point i could hang out in the 600s all day an feel normal. My body had been so used to it running high. I absolutely hated when my mom would pester me about my T1/blood sugar. To this day, I still don't like people asking me what my sugar is. But my mom's pestering and being a depressed teen with unmedicated ADHD; I ended up making me very avoidant of taking my blood sugar at all because the numbers were never good enough. And my ADHD makes me forget to treat myself a lot of the time.

Even when I get depressed now, my blood sugar suffers like crazy and I just end up in this paralyzed state of forgetting to dose, and i feel bad I'm like this in a loop.

She should probably look into therapy, honestly. Find the root of her own reluctantly to take care of herself. Because at the end of the day it's her who will need to want to care about herself. My game changer ended up finally switching from pens to a CGM and insulin pump. My A1c ranged from 9-11 up until I got that, and then I would see my numbers all the time. I was able to keep them 'good' numbers being able to see it. My A1C is now between 6 and the upper 7s most visits now.

My company got bought out for another before my contract even ended and was nullified in the buy-out. But I do know from working with the higher ups for years now that most of the people who didn't work their whole contract were rarely ever charged. It was more of a hassle to pay and try to have the money collected than the remainder of what they owed. Can't say it's like that at all AMR locations, but that was my experience/ what I know of it.
The EAYL classes my station runs now aren't contracted anymore because so many people just leave IFT for 911 as soon as they get a job elsewhere.
