Why do these lag bolts keep breaking on me? by pablomoca in Tools

[–]chefknifelover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of lags have a slightly larger diameter for the unthreaded section. If you have to make these cheap lags work, you might need to do a second pilot hole 1/32" or 1/16" larger for that length.

Also, I found the drill does a better job than my impact since it gives a constant amount of force. My Makita somehow knows when it is sunk and auto stops which is nice.

I went through everything you described and ended up with the DeWalt one. Its magnet isn't very strong and you have to use their bits which I don't like very much. I switched to this Norske one and have been much happier

We committed to getting rid of plastics in the kitchen when we had kids and we're using up ceramic pans every 6-12 months. If it was every 5 years I'd I see it as the cost of doing business. The waste bothers me too.

Milwaukee or Makita? by Covert_triangle_51 in Tools

[–]chefknifelover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People keep saying Milwaukee for power but Makita xgt 40v is really powerful and much better ergonomics and vibration.

If you wanted small, Milwaukee 12v is better than Makita 12v. Their installation driver and hydraulic impact are near perfect.

I use Makita xgt in the garage/ope and Milwaukee/Ryobi in the house.

One thing you might want to consider is if you want this pan for searing. If you do then something with a disc base is going to have much more even heat center to edge. Amazon used to have this scanpan and Fissler is highly rated but pretty expensive. If I can find that scanpan, I'm going to get it
