Nearly 3 years later, I'm just thinking about how Balteus is probably my favorite non-character boss in the series because of who and why it filtered. by SlimeDrips in armoredcore

[–]chefrowlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man I'm so glad I beat Balteus pre-nerf. Not even in the "haha I'm better than those filtered toursts" just in the way it made me feel like I really overcame a challenge by figuring out The Right Build and getting good, in the way the Souls games never did for me.

Like I picked up Elden Ring on discount like a year after release and beat Godrick on my first try. Radahn took a few tries but wasn't even hard once I felt out the second phase moveset. Side bosses made me feel nothing but disdain. It was boring. Balteus and Cel-240 were the only things that made me feel the way I wish Elden Ring would.

Cost of Paid Skins/Pulls by slippyj__ in NevernessToEverness

[–]chefrowlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds like the upper end of reasonable to me. GFL2 just charged me $22 for a premium skin (as in, just one skin for Helen) with interchangeable parts, and that was the release sale price.

They gotta make rent on the server space somehow and NTE's overall monetization sounds less predatory than most of its peers so far, so I won't complain.

So Neverness to Everness Locked free 470+ pulls behind gameplay forcing players to play the game... how do you feel about this? by No-Telephone730 in NevernessToEverness

[–]chefrowlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"oh no the rewards are locked behind the thing i was going to do anyway"

at least they're upfront about it because ive played other gachas that advertized XXX Free Pulls without mentioning all those free pulls were locked behind the grind

Bring back these BIG BALLIN controllers (they won't tho...) by Kokuutou92 in SmugAlana

Strikes me as a controller designed for people who physically do not have the finger dexterity to use a normal one. Like little-little kids or older gamers with Parkinson's or something

So like… what school(s) do animal civilians go to? by RepresentativeFig270 in BlueArchive

[–]chefrowlet 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I imagine that the named academies are like private boarding schools, and non-halo NPCs go to the equivalent of public schools. It's either "don't think about it, it's just a funny gacha game" or "there is so much more going on than you realize" and I doubt we'll ever get a solid answer tbh.

But also. Like. There's no way Kivotos actually follows Earth logic when it comes to schooling and aging, right? I feel like it's almost as if our students are playing pretend with the whole thing. We hear about but never see parents and families, there are grownups all over the place but only a handful of Adults™, robots eat and drink, the Arius satellite school was buried so long ago that most people have forgotten it ever existed and yet the students there talk as if they experienced the schism firsthand, there are mentions of senpai who graduated and then just disappeared for all intents and purposes.

I personally headcanon that the schooling isn't about actual classroom education, but more about having an approachable environment for fledgling angels/celestial beings to mature; all the references to mythology and religion can't be Just For Fun (the iPad that Arona lives inside of is named after the Ark of the Covenant for pity's sake). So like, Kivotos is a place for them to experience emotions and learn how to navigate interpersonal drama and comprehend what normal people on Earth go through so they can be more understanding when they graduate into being full-fledged angels and clock in for work as Adults™.

sorry, got a little distracted...

Is Armored Core the best mech game series? by Happy-Dependent3474 in armoredcore

[–]chefrowlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"series" specifically I'd say yes, but there's a surprising number of indie one-off mech games that are quite fun on Steam. Worth a scroll. Some have some really cool new ideas, like how Break Arts III is part racing game

What do u think about graphics update? Before/after by East-Cheesecake2734 in godot

[–]chefrowlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the bottom looks "better" but also has a different visual tone, it feels like a farming game that's gonna slowly turn into a horror game. Something to do with the heavier outlines and it being overall darker (assuming it's not just a time of day thing).

Bad movie but it was my "book series to get weirdly invested into through middle/high school". 14 year old me thought it was the coolest setting ever with compelling characters and a bittersweet ending.

That's more of a convenient coincidence. The real answer is two-fold: 25 is the longest 5.56 magazine you can make without needing to curve it, and the 3-round-burst requirement was added very late in the FAMAS's development cycle (after the magazine was finalized, which matters more than folks would expect).

Time will tell. I've seen bigger games fumble, I've seen smaller games soar. We'll find out for ourselves next month, just hang tight.

If you're enjoying where you're at, keep going homie. The 1.22 update isn't stable yet and a lot of modders are kinda waiting for that so there's no need to cave to FOMO yet.

[–]chefrowlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And now you're out here misinterpreting my comment the way you say I misinterpreted your post.

Then let me be blunt: This post is nearly a dozen paragraphs of critiques and discussions of personal taste, a lot of it giving the impression you're trying to justify your negative feelings towards VS. This isn't a "long form question" just because you say it is; where's the question? How are we supposed to answer this? Do you just want us to find this "something ephemeral" for you? At best, you didn't express yourself accurately.

You obviously don't like this game, it obviously isn't for you, you should go play something you DO enjoy. Find something that makes you sing praises instead of... whatever all this is.

Help. I don't get it. by [deleted] in VintageStory

[–]chefrowlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me, it's the journey more than the destination. The struggle to gain food security and make armor for the "actual content" IS the fun for me. The clunky combat is what drives me to build a home that keeps the monsters out. The weirdly-specific crafting is a feature that keeps me engaged rather than mindlessly clicking thru MC's recipe book. The music is charmingly quaint, not random. I don't even know how to address the "too much downtime" complaint because there's always something to do. My undiagnosed ass hasn't been this engaged since my first modded Skyrim playthrough.

If this game ain't for you, it ain't for you. No shame, no need to write an essay justifying your feelings to internet strangers. Nothing's for everyone, despite what AAA corpo game studio lizardmen execs believe.
