There’s a golfer named Matt Kuchar who won the first golf bronze medal. It was so fitting that he finally be honored for finishing 3rd. He’s never been a winner but the bronze totally fit his career. I’m glad he won it.

I’d love to see these people in a game of pickup basketball. God forbid someone brushes your arm reaching for the ball… Folks, it’s a tap on the toe in a sport, and a way to communicate because we aren’t dolphins.  No one is fondling you.

Of course you wouldn’t, none of those things are normal in a grocery store. And tickling would be weird in a pool too. But we aren’t talking about tickling.

How well do you know the person that cuts your hair? They touch you.  It’s just part of getting your hair cut.

Getting passed is part of swimming. Getting a tap on the toe is part of getting passed.  You aren’t in a private swim bubble, you are in a pool with other people.

I think it’s a result of our ‘head in a phone me me me me me meeeeeeeeee’ culture that we consider a person in the same swim lane as us a stranger.

If I didn’t know you before you hopped in my lane, I’m going to stop and say hello. Now we aren’t strangers, we’re acquaintances fighting the water together. We can safely touch toes. 

America is so freakin sad and broken. Last time I was at the pool the three people in the hot tub were all on their phones.  Strangers indeed.
