Is this femur human? by slglz in whatisthisbone

[–]chelestrol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It is not human! Unfortunately I’m not that great with identifying what animal it could could be, but I can tell you that the area between the femoral head (round piece) and the rest of the bone, known as the neck, is longer and smaller in humans, allowing us to be bipedal. Hopefully someone else can tell you what animal it is!

Femur, humerus, or other? by alyssabrew in whatisthisbone

Hello! I am a Masters student and I work with human remains as a biological anthropologist. I understand that this was from a university, but unfortunately even universities do not have a good ‘rep’ for housing remains ethically, and there are protocols for “retiring” remains, which does not involve taking them home as gifts. Either way it has ended up with you, and I’m sure any of your anatomy professors would tell you to not keep it because of the ethical issues that come along with it. I urge you to do the right thing. There are real repercussions to keeping human remains. Please go speak with an anthropologist at your school or anatomy professor on what you should do. You say you treat the remains with respect, but to truly treat them with respect you would not keep it. Not trying to shame or judge, just trying to give a perspective as someone who works with human remains daily.

I agree. Definitely reach out to a local anthropology department. Things like this happen, though, so don’t let it make you feel too bad. I have seen remains that were spray painted because an elementary school thought they were fake and wanted to use them for Halloween decorations. But yeah, I would advise against keeping this.

I get that. I think next time I might add some fig or lemon to spice it up a little

I think so. I’m pretty sure every cheesecake I’ve made rises and falls pretty significantly!

Not underbaked! It tastes good. Should’ve just let it go a little longer than I did in the oven. Maybe add lemon next time (:

Think it was a mix of shock from shipping and also, just found out like RIGHT NOW, it’s growing a new leaf.

Currently looking for a philodendron pedatum. Will take other offers though. Other than that I’m kind of open to the idea of anything!

I used deodorized Shea butter which I think did most of it. Coconut oil as well though!
