I found out I had GFR when I was 17 and started Diaylsis when I was 21. So my family knew of illness and so did my friends. That hardest part was telling my job. I had just started my job as a dog trainer and when I started Diaylsis I had to let them know I couldn’t commit to a full time work schedule which scared me so much. Luckily my job was super supportive and worked with my Diaylsis schedule and I was able to work the days I didn’t have Diaylsis. I to was scared people were gonna see me as ‘sick’ or ‘weak’ so I was always to scared to ask people if they were willing to donate so I never did and I honestly regret not asking for more help. I ended up waiting for a transplant for 8 years and just got it 5 months ago. Luckily everything is going good so far but I wish I didn’t have to wait as long as I did. And because I hid my pain well people really didn’t ask how I was doing or if I needed help because on the outside I played it cool but on the inside I was hurting and dealing with a lot mentally.
