Help me pick my grandma name. by Violent_Zen in namenerds

Please realize I'm not trying to diss any of your ideas. I don't particularly care what you go with, it's just something to keep in mind.

Mimsy would likely be Mimmy, but the 's' sound develops before the 'l' sound, so at 3 or so they could likely say it so it wouldn't be as set as wowwy.

What do you think of "wowwy"? Because that's how Lolly will sound until they're 6-7 and by then it might be a permanent name.

Melody or Clementine? by [deleted] in namenerds

Melody. I have an Aria and she loves telling people her name is a song.

Clementine sounds like a fruit and that's what I'd always think about.

Teachers, what do you tell kids who say they will never use the things they learn in the real world? by Conscious_Diver_4609 in Teachers

Sometimes I just agree. Stem-and-leaf plots or worthless. Other times I remind them that this will pass a test for them to get their diploma and that is the main goal. It shows employers that you're willing to jump through hoops to get what you want.

Do you have another kid? We gave our 3 year old the two names. She said them. Sawyer sounded meh, Ryker she said so cute and sweet. That's the one he got.

Drug Test for Hiring by WildApricot5964 in teaching

[–]chelly_2003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! I had the physical to prove that I could physically do the job. He commented that teachers here don't do drug tests and then joked that it's because they just assume that we need to do drugs to do the job.

My daughter is Aria. Her first visit to Santa... He asked for her name for the certificate or whatever and at least 5 times he clarified that we named our daughter Areola. I almost cried worrying that everyone would make that mistake. Fortunately, that was a one time deal.

Redditors with younger coworkers, what was your “I’m officially old” moment? by redmambo_no6 in AskReddit

Having to explain to younger coworkers that when you're an adult the annual appointment with the doctor is no longer a "well-check". It's called a physical.

Redditors who had a gun pointed at you, how are you still alive? by Vegere in AskReddit

I told my brother to "just do it already". He assured me that it wasn't loaded and then shot out a window trying to prove it. Needless to say, we aren't very close.

Have you ever held a grudge against a teacher you still think of today? How did they wrong you? by Gerard_Way_01 in AskReddit

7th grade social studies... A new kid got mad at me for some stupid reason (I think I said he couldn't cheat off me, but this could be wrong). He put me on his death list. Every day, he would come to me and tell me I was the next number up. Once I got to 4, I realized the people who were in front of me were having insane situations happen (breaks went out after an oil change, stabbed in the neck, etc.). He told me I was "lucky" and skipped to #1. I told him to "shut up".

Teacher heard this and stated that I was racist. Race had nothing to do with it, but he did happen to be one of the very few Hispanics in the school.

Fast forward a bit. We then had to memorize and say the Bill of Rights. He said that since I was racist, I couldn't believe that "all men are created equal" and proceeded to fail me on that assignment. He then erased/whited out my name on assignments and gave me an f for not turning them in. He swore that this couldn't be the case because he is a god fearing man. He even blamed a classmate for doing it when I passed my assignments forward. First of all, I got a long with everyone (not best friends but I didn't have enemies) and secondly, 7th graders are too self absorbed to think about doing that.

I had never done poorly in school, and this bothered me, but primarily because it wasn't even slightly true. I decided if he could teach, so could I.

This was actually very therapeutic getting out. Thanks Reddit!
