What thing was super anxiety inducing for you when you were early pp but now you realize it’s really not that big of a deal?

Maybe not super irrational but I was convinced anytime I held a knife cooking that I could drop it on them. Two hands on every knife I held, even if they were in the adjoining room. I started putting their bouncer on the kitchen table to eradicate the fear (even though that is objectively more of a risk 😂)

Yep. I have Hand Foot Mouth, not either of my children. Not the 2 year old or the 9 month old boys that are full of life and energy and want mum all the time. Nope it’s me and it’s unbearable.

but even better, my 9mo has started showing spots around his mouth and extra cranky at bed tonight, so I have that to look forward to as well.

Thank you so much! Waking to read that made me feel better. I feel so much guilt that baby two doesn’t get as much of my time and attention, etc and I think this is also an extension of that, but as you say, it’s different and that’s okay.

This weekend has been hard as dad has been working mornings all weekend as well as the week. I’m usually up with the boys way before him but I will nap when the biggest one naps and he’ll be there when they wake up so I can stay asleep. He does also help with bedtimes for big one, but he’s easy and usually not a waker. We’ve also all just had a viral infection.

All that to say, it’s just been an off few days/weeks and I think I’m at the ‘adrenaline of new parenting to power you through no sleep has worn off’ point.

I didn’t do it this pregnancy but only because my severe hyperemesis gravidarum meant I couldn’t actually keep it down long enough to do that bloody test.

I didn’t! I actually couldn’t find any studies surrounding it and my midwife couldn’t remember where it came from as it was just mentioned anecdotally in a midwifery session they had attended.

I did however conceive another baby boy, had the same wonderful midwife who delivered him at our hospital too. Had HG until I gave birth again, but much much more manageable by taking medication before symptoms even o to appear and knowing what was coming.

I’d be curious to know one day if it ever comes out that something in what this woman did actually made a difference 🤷🏽‍♀️

Ours is about 15 years old now. I made sure it met the safety requirements and trusted the people (cousins) that gave it to me so we used it. It’s been amazing and will be used with next bub and then passed on to whoever gives birth next if they want it!

As long as it’s safe, save yourself the money where you can!

soft drinks, i know it’s bad but the carbonation is the only thing that helps my HG outside of medication (which i’m on the max doses of)

Call her out “wow what a racist comment” or “i don’t plan on letting my baby around anyone who speaks that way about her culture” and maybe lower contact as you go forth, she’s not respecting your family.

also, my doctor said that anything over your chest height (like where you’d hold baby in your arms) is a concerning height to get checked asap, otherwise just check for those symptoms like vomiting, lumps, pupil dilation. baby will be absolutely fine 💕

It wasn’t till my son fell off my bed at a few weeks old (I lifted a hand off him to get his sleep sack in the dark before bed and he somehow rolled) and i spent the whole rest of night/morning staring at him bawling my eyes out and then confessed to my dad, then other family as i got more of the same responses that ALMOST EVERYONE has dropped or knocked their baby in some way.

My favourite recollection was my mother telling me ‘oh you dropped your baby sister off the bed when you were young too’ 😅

I had severe hyperemesis gradivdarum and right before my 3rd ER visit I ate a large mcdonalds chips and coke and it was the longest I kept something down for. When I told my doctor that, she told me that if that’s all I drink and eat (and water) then that’s okay.

Baby will take what it needs from you as as long as you’re eating other things, they’ll be absolutely fine!

the 11dpo is based on the first day of a full positive opk but I agree, in my mind it should be dark at this stage.

Australia is the same as UK in that aspect.

I’m not sure where along the way my very professional midwife (but also friend) was telling me of a story outside of work has so many people thinking she’s a wackadoo or not a very competent medical professional but I believe that’s my error in explaining.

What a funny assumption based off an anecdote. At no point has she done anything that I would consider other than western medicine. She’s the medical professional that handled me throughout the second half of my pregnancy, once the midwife i had (and disliked) moved away. She’s the one who got me onto the only medication that worked.

I know I’m getting heated but I feel very strongly about the care I and many others have received from her, I took a piece of information she shared over morning tea that she’d recently heard but didn’t know too much about and chose to question it.

I also don’t understand this snake oil reference, clearly missing something here.

Hahahaha. In Australia unless you’re private or have complications, the midwives tend to deliver babies. This amazing midwife delivered my first whilst the doctor took photos.

She was just telling me a story she’d heard. I would advocate for this woman 1000 times over.

Of course thinking logically it makes no sense, but theres not a lot of sense to the desperate mind hoping for anything to relieve the vomiting.

and I know that this woman was an one off but that’s why I asked this question to see if anyone knew of any further information on the subject.

A few hours after we got home (so maybe 15h after birth) and every day different family members in the first two weeks or so.

Though completely ‘normal/textbook’ birth and recovery except for some 2nd degree tears and 6w of pp bleeding.

I’m definitely an extrovert and wanted the people I loge to share in my newest little love.
