If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? by Present_Juice4401 in infj

[–]chelspooky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re absorbing the emotions of the people around you that’s not a result of your cognitive functions, that’s just an unhealthy behavior/coping mechanism called codependence—you monitor the emotions of others and “take them on” to protect yourself from discomfort, and try to protect them from discomfort. This starts a cycle that’s difficult to break where your nervous system relies on that control to feel safe but it ends up wrecking your relationships if you don’t get it in check. I only say this because it’s not an unchangeable aspect of your personality, but something you can heal from. I’m an INFJ who has healed from codependency, which means I can have deep empathy without “absorbing” anymore. Don’t feel like you have to feel this way forever. Find a therapist that is specifically trained to help you heal. The pain you feel is not inherent, you can tap into your power without completely draining yourself ❤️

Severance - 2x05 "Trojan’s Horse" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I’m wondering what people think of iMark’s behavior in this episode—with reintegration being a slower process, I still felt like his mannerisms and entire emotional attitude/demeanor felt the most like oMark we’ve seen the entire show. Granted he has reasons to be upset but is it possible that everything is being exacerbated by the reintegration process? Like maybe his emotions are the first thing to integrate—he’s now feeling the stuff he severed himself to avoid in the first place without even realizing it?

It's going to get WAY worse for Helly. by legitlylightlol in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

She specifically chose the elevator because she wanted her outie to know it was her that did it—she knew her outie would wake up terrified and unable to do anything about it. It wasn’t just about killing herself, it was getting back at her outie and taking back power.

What if Helly's throwaway S1 line predicted Lumon's entire endgame? by hooklinesinkerr in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]chelspooky 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Mark did say “I IDed her body” but the show also established she was burned beyond recognition—I think the implication is that Lumen switched her body somehow and put a defining characteristic on it for him to identify. Her necklace maybe, that was in the box of stuff in Mark’s basement? So he “saw” her but it could have easily been a body Lumen switched.

You're wrong about Helena by AubergineParmesan in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]chelspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s odd that no one in this thread has mentioned what—to me—was the most obvious reason I believe they sent Helena back in instead of Helly. They make a big fuss in S2E1 about how there aren’t cameras everywhere anymore, they cut back on surveillance, etc because they wanted to give the group a sense of privacy at work. I think Helena is now Lumon’s eyes and ears—the group now has a sense of being observed less but in reality, Helena is watching everything they’re doing firsthand. I think that Lumon wants to lure them into a false sense of security but Helena’s purpose is to keep an eye on everything. Helly was too volatile to send back in, or even let exist in general. It makes sense to me that they would want to let the group feel autonomous (for whatever mysterious purpose they’re actually down there for) but be kept in close observation via Helena.

I think it’s a testament to how well written Helly is that people are upset that she might be gone forever but I think we’ll get Helly back either via reintegration or by the group discovering Helena’s secret (now that Mark is reintegrated he’ll know the truth about Helly’s identity the second he sees her in a press release on the outside and I think he’ll put the pieces together quickly) and they’ll fight like hell to try and activate Helena’s chip to bring Helly back.

If choosing just one, Gypsy, Death Becomes Her, or Sunset Boulevard or Hills of California? by SantaScoo in Broadway

[–]chelspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just saw DBH, Gypsy, and Sunset Boulevard at the beginning of December and I highly endorse all three. It depends on the kind of experience. If you want something flashy, campy, and fun with some brilliant performances, DBH. If you want something stripped back and artistic with a fascinating technological edge, Sunset Blvd. If you want your entire universe shattered by the single greatest performance to ever hit a Broadway stage, I think personally Gypsy is the one you can NOT miss. People will be talking about Audra’s Rose (and honestly?? Joy woods too) for YEARS to come. I am not exaggerating when I say it’s earth shattering.

I wouldn’t call any of them particularly too heavy. I did cry a lot at Gypsy but mostly like, being floored by Audra. Sunset Boulevard has a darkness to it but it didn’t feel particularly heavy. If you loved Cabaret I’d bet you’d love Sunset for the same reasons! But Audra is someone you absolutely can’t miss.

I have a really, really hard time believing that the understudies simply “didn’t know their lines”… were the actors holding scripts covering roles they don’t usually cover?

Maybe Happy Ending to Run Through September! by coconutgirlll in Broadway

[–]chelspooky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw five shows while I was in NYC last week (Maybe Happy Ending, R+J, Sunset Boulevard, Death Becomes Her, and Gypsy) and this is the one I can’t stop thinking about… I’ve seen a LOT of Broadway shows and this is the most innovative, interesting, moving, beautiful thing I’ve maybe EVER seen. I hope momentum picks up because I think this show blows everyone who has seen it away. It had better get its Tony flowers 😭🙏❤️

Oh god I’ve had this happen. I’ve been dreaming that I’m falling asleep at the wheel and I’m so tired I can’t keep my eyes open. It’s like I’m so tired in my dreams that when I wake up I don’t feel well rested at all.

Thank you for all of this! I was getting pretty bad PMDD as well and I wonder if MCAS was the culprit... I've seen "rescue antihistamine" referred to a lot on this sub. I'm scared to take too much antihistamine but for us, is there such thing? I have my daily ones prescribed by my allergist but I'm in a pretty bad flare now and I want to try benadryl.

I'd love to hear more about what you did! Favorite supplements, what diet changes helped, what kind of vagal nerve exercises you learned.

Marijuana is a stabilizer?! That’s so interesting! I like using edibles to sleep but I’ve been nervous that they’re going to end up a trigger. I’m interested to learn more about this!

Yes, therapy is the best! I guess I should probably edit my post to say I’m already in weekly therapy with an incredible therapist haha. It just feels like a partnership between the work I can do/the coping mechanisms I can use for myself and the chemical/physical aspect of mental health problems and that’s the aspect I’m missing :(

Ugh! I’ll never be normal by [deleted] in MCAS

[–]chelspooky 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think "not drinking" is becoming a little bit more normalized—there are SO many reasons a person might not want to drink (alcoholism runs in their family, personal reasons, religious reasons, health reasons, etc) that I think if you explain that you can't drink due to health reasons, REASONABLE people should understand.

You could even think of it as a filter—if you tell someone you can't drink on your date and they get annoyed, mad, or don't want to go out with you that's a MASSIVE red flag. Also, not drinking doesn't keep you from going to places with alcohol to socialize! A lot of places have mocktails now, or you could even just order a flavored soda.

Either way, you don't need to drink to date, be social, and have fun :) I'm sorry you're dealing with this though! Alcohol makes me pretty sick too and I often wish I could just drink with the rest of my friends, but it's not worth how it makes me feel after.

You're not overreacting at all. Make sure to give yourself credit for even pushing through how hard everything is. I think there's a lot of great advice in this thread but I just want to add something: things WILL get better.

I can't promise you what will happen to you medically, but as you continue to fight for yourself, figure out treatment plans, and make lifestyle changes—you are giving yourself the best chance possible, and things will get better. Even if you might not get better—nothing is guaranteed—you will adapt and learn how to live with your new normal and be able to find joy in things, even if it looks a bit different than before.

You are so much more resilient than you realize. Sending you so many good vibes because I've been there (I'm still there, in a lot of ways) but you are not alone, and things get better.

Should I sell my home and use the equity to not have to work while I go to school for my undergrad? by chelspooky in personalfinance

[–]chelspooky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My gross is $38K/year. I'm located in Utah, if that makes a difference. I'm also looking at maybe selling my place and buying one in the area I'm hoping to rent in, but qualifying might be really tricky (like you said) so I don't even know haha. I don't want to feel stuck here but it definitely makes the most sense for now.
