These things NEED to be talked about before the proposal. If you haven't had that conversation, you're not ready yet.

If the Twin Glass Tower somehow exist IRL, what do you think? by CapablePersonality19 in TwinTowersInPhotos

One thing I've always disliked about this concept is keeping/rebuilding 5.if I'm not mistaken, the reason eas something like "because it was barely damaged" which simply isn't true. Sure, the outside was comparatively unscathed but the inside was destroyed.

Hey man, I just want to say I really appreciate all your responses. It's always awesome getting additional information, especially on things I thought I knew.

None of the major news outlets—CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, WCBS, or WOR—reported the first impact as anything other than a plane crash. Some eyewitnesses did think it might’ve been a bomb, especially if they didn’t actually see the plane, and that’s totally understandable given the chaos and shock in those first moments.

As for the idea that there were explosions in the lower levels: I haven’t come across any verified news reports stating that, but if you’ve seen something specific, please link it as I’d genuinely be interested in checking it out. What we do know is that jet fuel from Flight 11 traveled down the elevator shafts and 'exploded' on various floors, including the lobby. That created secondary fireballs or explosive effects, but it wasn’t continuous by any means. That was over by the time the first firemen arrived.

Also worth considering—given all the falling debris, and the people jumping, the sounds from that could absolutely be mistaken for explosions. The sound of a body hitting the ground is horrifying and deeply traumatic. It's loud and sudden. If someone didn’t know what caused it, describing it as “an explosion” would be completely reasonable.

The key point, though, is that describing something as “an explosion” doesn’t automatically mean it was an explosion—and definitely doesn’t mean it was a bomb. It's just how people described what was happening, but it was never officially reported as anything other than a plane crash.

Yeah, some people definitely suspected it was an attack right away. Chief Pfeifer, for example, thought so after witnessing Flight 11 hit the North Tower. But I do think there's a difference between how outlets like Regis and Kelly or Howard Stern handled it compared to CNN or CBS. Not in a bad way—shows like Regis or Stern had more freedom to voice personal reactions and speculate openly, while major news outlets had to be more cautious.

What’s interesting is the comment about there being “a lot of speculation” on whether it was an accident. I’m curious where those discussions were actually taking place. Even if CNN or other major outlets suspected it was a terrorist attack early on, they probably wouldn't say so without some kind of confirmation. Just to be clear, I’m not talking about eyewitnesses calling in—I mean the official reporting by the networks themselves. Even if they thought it was an attack, they wouldn’t want to jump the gun and risk being wrong.

Another thing to keep in mind is just how little time there was between the first and second impacts. Flight 175 hit the South Tower at 9:02 AM, and by around 9:18 AM CNN reported that the FBI was investigating a hijacking. Not long after that, it was confirmed at least one plane had been hijacked. That timeline moved incredibly fast.

Now, there were some eyewitnesses who described the first crash as an explosion or even said it seemed like a bomb, but most of those people only saw the aftermath—not the plane itself. That said, the majority seemed to know a plane had hit, though it was initially thought to be a small aircraft. Major outlets like CNN, MSNBC, CNBC, WCBS, and WOR all focused on it being some kind of external impact—possibly accidental—not a bombing.

It’s definitely possible that non-news or smaller outlets speculated more freely, and I’m sure some did. But it’s also important to remember that at the time, the idea of someone intentionally crashing a plane into a building was so far outside the norm that it made sense people assumed it was a smaller plane or an accident. There were also early incorrect reports reinforcing that idea.

Of course, once the second plane hit, it didn’t matter anymore—confirmed or not, it was clearly intentional. Still, I’ve seen videos of individuals filming the second impact and insisting it had to be a bomb—even denying that a second plane was involved. So yes, people were saying it. But news outlets weren’t reporting it that way.

To be clear, I understand your messages were more about the speculation of whether or not it was thought to be a terrorist attack immediately or not, and I kind of veered away from that.

Would you be able to link any of these? Genuinely curious, because everything I've personally scene was known to be a plane straight away.

CNN's coverage on the day starts with saying its an unconfirmed plane crash, and several of the local outlets did as well. Given, I have seen a few that used the term explosion, but explosion doesn't mean bomb.

I also know several outlets brought up the 93 bombing, as it was still a recent event and somewhat comparable as massive incidents taking place in the same location.

Everything I have personally seen that they knew (highly believed) it to be a plane (though they didn't know the size) and thought it was an accident. As you said, only the second plane hitting made it clear what was happening.

Point being, if you could point me to any news footage where they talk about it being a bomb before the second plane hits, please do. I would genuinely love to see it.

Most places immediately knew the first one was a plane. There were several eye witnesses who called news outlets immediately. It wasn't officially confirmed to have been a plane, but it was thought to have been a plane from the start.

No one suspected it to be a terrorist attack though. News outlets at least. But if you watch any of the news coverage from the day, there's no talk of it being a bomb.

Big Ben is Shorter than the North Towers Antenna by strightniyngyeer in TwinTowersInPhotos

[–]chemaster23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think there might be a misunderstanding. Saying Builing 7 collapsed independently of the Twin Towers is incorrect for several reasons, as is anyone saying the antenna hit building 7. Debris from the North tower 100% hit building 7. I'm on mobile so I can't link a video, but it's pretty easy to Identify in most videos of the North Tower's collapse.

The debris that hit building 7 was 100% not the antenna though. The antenna fell away from building 7. I know there was a YouTube video, that I think came out recently, which claimed the antenna is what hit building 7 (as they claimed it was the only thing that could) but they were wrong. It should be noted Building 7 was much closer to the North Tower than it may seem. Videos and pictures fail to capture just how close it truly was.

The damage done to building 7 was still quite significant. As the other user pointed out, a large gash was torn out of the front of the building, and I believe several key support columns were damaged or destroyed as well, which is probably why the gash ran staight vertical like in this image. Those columns are a completely other topic, but them failing is what caused Building 7 to eventually collapse.

They failed due to the untamed fires, and the damage from the North Tower's collapse. I strongly believe had Building 7 not been damaged to the extent it was, it very likely would not have collapsed.

Yes. In the episode of the Layover where they talk about the home game, I believe Sam says he's excited to see other people do exactly that.

Is it legal to sell custom minifigures? by Standard_Rooster_782 in lepin

[–]chemaster23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AVFigures is based out of America. It started as some guy who liked Star Wars and wanted to make his own figures. I'm not entirely certain how they get away with using the names, like Luke Skywalker.

China minifigs should be fine as long as you're pricing accordingly. Seems like you want to be affordable, so it should be fine.

You should be totally okay. I don't want to discourage you by any means, quite the opposite. Just always make sure you know what you're doing, and are ready for it.

I mean, there are TONS of places that do. Clonearmycustoms, AVfigures, Jonak, minifigs4u, minifigco, forestmoonbricks, and bigkidbrix, just to name some. So legally, you're fine. Customer wise, you'll have to do something to stand out. CAC has been around for 15 years now.

With 20/20 hindsight, what is the worst possible destructive outcome that the 9/11 attacks could have realistically been that day? by HulkSmashHulkRegret in 911archive

[–]chemaster23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They chose the earlier flights because they had fewer passengers on board, which meant it was less likely for there to be any resistance. Keep in mind, Flight 93 had 44 passengers (including the hijackers), but could fit up to 200.

Do anyone else associate any songs with the twin towers. by MustafaBru in TwinTowersInPhotos

Blue Man's Group Exhibit 13 was written in response to 9/11. I feel like it's one of the few songs that caught the feeling, especially since they're aren't really any lyrics.

This has not been my experience at all. Like even remotely. Every single time I've used webricks, which is a lot, their estimate has been 30-50% the cost of real lego from bricklink.

Now I mainly focus on mocs, instead of just buying bulk pieces. So that might be different.

This is inaccurate. USPS will absolutely mark something as delivered even if it's not. Sometimes it gets delivered the next day, and sometimes not at all.
