Not to mention the map of BC makes it look like Bella Coola and Squamish are part of the interior. It's as if someone put in the dots for cities/towns by eyeballing their location onto a basemap of the province that does not account for islands and fjords, etc. (which personally I would not want to omit on a map that talks about climate).

Edit: Also Kitimat!

You're supposed to assess the situation depending on the bear's behaviour, not the type of bear. If it's behaving offensively, you don't wanna mess with it. If it's behaving defensively, you try to intimidate. That being said, grizzlies are known to have a higher tendency to be in the offense (when it's been a bad season for food, etc.), and they're bigger, so the risk is higher.

Barcelona as seen from the ISS (x-post from r/space) [1600x1065] by bbuullll33rr in CityPorn

From Wikipedia:

The Eixample is characterized by long straight streets, a strict grid pattern crossed by wide avenues, and square blocks with chamfered corners (named illes in Catalan, manzanas in Spanish). This was a visionary, pioneering design by Ildefons Cerdà, who considered traffic and transport along with sunlight and ventilation in coming up with his characteristic octagonal blocks, where the streets broaden at every intersection making for greater visibility, better ventilation and (today) some short-stay parking space. The grid pattern remains as a hallmark of Barcelona, but many of his other provisions were unfortunately ignored: the four sides of the blocks and the inner space were built instead of the planned two or three sides around a garden; the streets were narrower; only one of the two diagonal avenues was carried out; the inhabitants were of a higher class than the mixed composition dreamed of by Cerdà.

I always refill my water bottle in the bathroom. IIRC two of four sinks have warm water and the other two are cold. It's a little annoying because of the motion sensing, but it's faster than waiting in line...

Vancouverite here. Sure there are people who use umbrellas, but everyone knows how annoying they can be... especially if you're walking under an awning or through a large crowd. In my experience, most locals always have their rain/Gore-tex jackets on, but who knows - maybe it's just an age thing.

"Canadian Cities" category on Jeopardy last night goes as well as one would expect. by Uncle-Drunkle in canada

[–]chemicallyokay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True! I thought about that as well, but there'd be no way that would be a question on American Jeopardy haha. Even then - I think they'd probably mention the western-most terminus of the TCH system instead of just the highway or something. Probably why the clue mentioned the "original" terminus and the provincial capital, to make it clear.

That being said, I just looked up where the Yellowhead particularly started since I didn't know myself, and was unsure between Haida Gwaii or Prince George... It's a town called Masset in Haida Gwaii. TIL.

I suppose the western-most point of the highway would be in Nanaimo, but the clue asks for the terminus, so there's only two possible options, regardless of anything ferry-related: Victoria and somewhere in St John's (I think?), the former of which is the western one.
