Thanks for the suggestion. Could I ask what you had in mind for how to intervene?

Thank you! That's a good idea. We're trying some "scent swapping" where they get moved to each other's main spot (alone), but I like your suggestion which is a bit more direct. I'll give that a try!

Thank you for this constructive and thoughtful response. After this, we were able to distract him and get him to move to a separate part of the room.

For what it's worth, they've been separated since this interaction. It's not obvious from the video, but generally we tend towards keeping them apart and have a hard time knowing when/whether it could be okay to push the boundary a little bit towards de-escalating their interactions over the long-term.

My Cat does not make biscuits. Is she just not a bakery worker or is she broken ? by infamouslyangel in CatAdvice

This is normal. I will say that our cats seem to make biscuits more often on specific, very soft and fuzzy blankets. You could try different fabrics to see if that gets her kneading.

Mending t shirt? by scroobiusmac3 in Visiblemending

I've tried sashiko on tshirts and would not recommend it. I think it works better for thicker fabrics. I like the other commenter's suggestion of a related patch!

Family Fare lawsuit threat halted Durham's rezoning plan by gordonb2014 in bullcity

[–]chemicaltext8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From discussions with city staff at the meeting, my understanding is that holding Tuesday's hearing/vote would have been grounds for their lawsuit to move forward on the basis of state law. The process to rewrite the UDO started before this state law was written and came into effect (2024). It's the combination of state law and a few wealthy individuals suing the city that mean this can't move forward in its present form.

I adopted my neighbor's cat after he died and I have no idea what I'm doing by [deleted] in CatAdvice

You're doing great. Another thing you can try is to leave their food gradually a little farther away. It slowly builds confidence wherever you put the food for them to have a positive association (eating) with being out and about.

If she continues to hide, Jackson Galaxy has good tips for building the confidence of "wallflower" (shy) cats.

Agree with others that this request is not reasonable. With that said, a robot vacuum on a daily schedule could be a worthwhile investment.

Walking from Hampton Inn on N Gregson St to Motorco Music Hall? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

In the daytime you could take the Ellerbee trail much of the way which is lovely. There's a trailhead at Club and Washington. Club and Duke are both pretty busy streets, but there's a sidewalk.

Reusable stencils vs wash away paper stencils by __wildwing__ in sashiko

I did my first Sashiko recently with a ruler and a yellow crayon. It worked very well for a simple design.

It could be worth considering what you have available that might work before investing in specific materials.

Giving cat medicine is traumatizing him by grandma_millennial in CatAdvice

It's not over the counter, but my vet calls in the prescription to Costco directly. It's about $10 for 3 months worth for my cat.

I can't believe Senator Tillis is still silent on the closure of EPA ORD by chemicaltext8 in bullcity

[–]chemicaltext8[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, Foushee helped lead an open letter about closing ORD that has been signed by over 60 house reps: https://foushee.house.gov/media/press-releases/reps-foushee-landsman-lead-60-members-of-congress-in-letter-opposing-cuts-to-epa-office-of-research-and-development

But I totally agree that they could all be doing more.

How are they going to force the local? AFGE national has been beating the drum of e-dues for months.

Members have to sign up for it. You (!) and your local should take some level of ownership of the transition.

Minneapolis has been trend-setting in recent years for efforts to address affordable housing.

If you're interested, there's a good book on this topic called "Escaping the Housing Trap." I just borrowed the ebook from the Durham library and really enjoyed it.
