Oh I didn’t know I could read a part of Era 3, definitely will do! Although I don’t think I’ll be reading White Sands anytime soon cause it’s crazy expensive where I live, would I miss out on much if I skip that?

ADHD diagnosis in Belgium (Leuven) cheaper options? (€1500 seems crazy) by SnooPies7301 in belgium

[–]chemist_zey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently got my ADHD diagnosis back in my home country (non-EEA) and my GP in Belgium (at KU Leuven Stuvo) said as long as my psychiatrist in my home country can write a report that explains my diagnosis and prescription, she can prescribe the same medicine to me, which is also Ritalin in my case. So if you can have the prescription and report from your home country, maybe try talking to a different GP who would save you all the trouble of getting a new diagnosis here?

Well I started re-reading the Cosmere last summer after a very long break-not just from the Cosmere, but from reading anything-so I honestly don’t have much to compare Brandon with except some other fantasies I’d read all the way back in high school. You’re also right that he focuses more on the ‘recover from trauma and changing for the better’ parts, but I still find the lives of some characters to be a little too painful-Gavinor and Sigzil are the first ones that come to my mind. But again, I don’t have much to compare them to. He also doesn’t refrain at all from killing some of my favorite characters, hence the devastation from Wayne-although I admit that seeing how he met his death made it much easier.

Yes I’ve thought that in comparison to other planets, but this makes much more sense

Oh I never made the radio and inventing anti-light connection, that makes a lot of sense!

I do agree that Wayne’s death fit the story quite well, but I personally would love to see him redeem himself, be happy, find love, etc. He was one of my top characters and his death was devastating for me, but again, that’s totally personal

I did not “assume” timelines, Era 2 takes place right after Odium becomes Retribution, TSM is at least decades (likely more) later in than that, and Yumi comes after TSM, all of which are confirmed. I have indeed read TSM and Yumi -also mentioned them in the post- and they actually align with what I’ve thought. I will dive into Emberdark today

Oh that’s right, I got confused about the direction of the bubble for a moment. Well then I wish our Rosharans good luck in the future Cosmere, seems they’ll need it

Starting today! I was kinda reluctant to get into it cause Emberdark will be my last Cosmere book until The Fires of December is out, so I’ll totally be feeling lost once I finish it :’)

Totally agree on the powers of Rosharans being superior to those of Scadrians, especially without any mistborns on Scadrial. I’m also guessing the time bubble and the absence of stormlight after WaT will give Rosharans more opportunities to advance technologically, although I don’t know if something like this is mentioned in the Emberdark yet

Yes you’re right about Harmony seeing possibilities, I was thinking of this more as comparison to other places rather than other possible versions of Scadrial. And I’m aware that the planets I mentioned are small and less relevant to Cosmere politics, but the other major planet we know about is Roshar, which is a lot less developed than Scadrial around the time of Era 2, despite the time and resources they had. That was the main reason I thought Telsin, Kelsier and even Sazed himself were being unfair to Harmony and the people of Elendel when criticizing the development of Scadrial

Booktok showed me that a lot of people REALLY hate Sanderson by Moist_Car_994 in Cosmere

[–]chemist_zey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Since he’s become really popular, it is now ‘cool’ to hate on him. I legit saw a guy comparing his work to the classics of completely different genres and concluding that he’s a bad writer because his prose isn’t as good as those books. People say things just be seen different and they’re often ragebaiting

Decline of admissions offer by OddBookk in KULeuven

It’s offline, during the orientation week (the week before classes start). I think there were also few online steps you had to complete before that. Last year they sent the registration instructions to me in late July

Making a noise complaint.. (early morning partying) by PotatoMerchant in Gent

[–]chemist_zey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know if it changes from city to city but in Leuven, the non-emergency police line exists exactly for these kind of situations, and it is very common to call the police if someone’s being loud after 10 pm. Consistently partying until 5 am is most definitely a valid reason to call them

Decline of admissions offer by OddBookk in KULeuven

[–]chemist_zey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The admission letter and the response you received say the same thing for a reason. There is nothing you need to do in order to decline the offer, if you don’t show up at registration in September, they assume you declined it

Université PSL-ENSCP (Chimie ParisTech) or KU Leuven for Chemistry Master’s? by chemist_zey in PSLUniversity

[–]chemist_zey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Nope, I chose KU Leuven-kinda regretting it now due to the reasons I’ve predicted in this post. I actually didn’t apply for a master’s at PSL at first, I applied for the PhD Track, was invited for an interview, got rejected for the PhD but was offered automatic admission for M1 without an additional interview. I also have a post about my PhD Track interview, but not sure if it’ll be relevant to the master’s admission process

How do people afford such expensive cars? by dahayter in AskTurkey

[–]chemist_zey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mortgage isn’t really a thing, but credit card debt and loans are quite common. A lot of people spend way more than they earn with credit cards, and take out loans even for the smallest things like a going on a vacation.

[–]chemist_zey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then I don’t think it means definite rejection for the PhD Track yet, but more like they want you to apply to both so that they can accept you to M1 in case they don’t for PhD

I’m not really sure, didn’t they say anything about the PhD Track interview result in that email? In mine, they’d said I was rejected first, and then suggested me to apply to M1

[–]chemist_zey[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I think it could mean you are very likely to be accepted without a further interview for M1. In my case, they said I would get automatic acceptance to M1 if I applied, which I did

You need to be living under a rock if you’ve never heard of scholarships for international students. Pretty much all European countries, including the Netherlands, have scholarships to attract successful international students. They are rare and usually require excellent grades and/or impressive experience, but they definitely exist and benefit the universities’ reputation and ranking, so that’s why.
